Wording for Nations' Economic Status

Clarify something for me please...anybody. I'm not being snarky here, just want to be sure my PC is correct enough.

We cannot say "third world." It needs to be "developing nations."

But, using the term "first world problem" is acceptable?

Doesn't that phrase subscribe to the same exact line of thought from which the term "third world" comes?

No one wants to be thought of as living in a "third world" nation. "Developing" sounds better on the ears. But can't the concept of "first world" still be offensive to someone in a developing nation who reailzes that s/he isn't in a "first world" nation?

I think the phrase should be "developed nation problem."
