Can you tell me a few things, good estimates are fine:
1. The unemployment rate in Sweden?
2. The rough number of people in their workforce compared to the overall number of people in their population?
I am thinking something through and need this info. I will post my thoughts/question about a hypothetical situation in which the U.S. becomes like Sweden once I get my ideas together.
Re: Need Sweden Stats
Sweden's current unemployment rate is 7.8%. The population is 9,453,000 people. I can't find anything current about the number of people in the workforce, though. (Info is from www.google.ca/publicdata.)
You shouldn't just compare the US to Sweden though. Your numbers will be more accurate if you choose at least a couple other countries (preferably non-Scandinavian ones) with similar ideas on health care, education, etc. By averaging these numbers you will get a more accurate view of what "socialist" countries are like, on average. Just looking at one could be completely unrepresentative of the rest. You may also get results that can be more accurately compared to the US if you pick a country with a bigger population.
That sounds sooo interesting! Said no one ever.
Also, why wouldn't you do your own google search for these numbers? Do you really think anyone else knows the answer off the top of their head? Lol.
so, she has no access to unbiased sources? She should do her own research for her own project.
I'm really REALLY sorry that I started that thread. If I could turn back time....

Sweden's total population was 9.1 million as of July 2011.
Sweden's labor force is 5,055,000 people as of September 2012.
(So the labor force participation rate is about 55.5%)
Sweden's unemployment rate for September 2012 (the most recent stats available) was 7.4%.
For comparison's sake, the United States:
Total population: 311.6 million as of July 2011
US labor force (September 2012): 155,063,000 people
(labor force participation rate is about 49.7%)
US unemployment rate (Sept 2012): 7.8%
(source: http://www.dlt.ri.gov/lmi/laus/us/usadj.htm )
And because it has universal healthcare, paid parental leave, and all kinds of great social policies PLUS lower unemployment and a lower national debt than the United States.
Oh.
It seems like everytime people start to rail against ACA, they bring up Sweden as an example of how it doesn't work and I'm all "lolwhut?"
Oops, it is spelled Plopp. Choclate bar with a caramel filling.
From Wikipedia: "Some English-speaking sources have criticized
the name"Plopp" as being unappealing"
Thanks! Appreciate it.
Yeah that would be Switzerland....
