Hey Nesties
I am hoping you can help me out. My husband and I have been living in the same apartment for over 2years. We never really decorated it much because we always assumed that we would be moving out sometime soon, however as life always does-it got in the way- and we will most likely be here for a least another year. Which brings me to my question: I want to re-decorate our apartment and give it an actual style, being a young couple, we sort of just bargain shopped, or took hand-me-downs when we first moved out, so nothing matches- however now that we have new items from our wedding, I want to create a new look in my home. Any ideas of where we could get style ideas and where we could get them on a budget?
Re: Finding Style-On a budget
Sometimes (I mean sometimes) I find cute and cheap things at IKEA. A lot of their items are on the pricey side but I have found quite a few cheapies that look really good in our house.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
Paint! You'd be amazed at what you can do with spray paint or Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (will stick to anything with no prep work). It's a fast and easy way to update mismatched furniture.
I've repainted tables, chairs, coffee tables, dressers, picture frames, and framed mirrors. Slip covers are a low cost option too.
a friend of my cousins just started this cute blog called Decordime.blogspot.com
she is finding deals on cute household items.
other than that take a look through some decorating books, better homes and gardens, hgtv magazines- and take a trip to TJ Maxx and Marshalls! or Homegoods if there is one near by.
Also shop craigslist for furntiure you can redesign (check out betterafter.com)
Yeah, Pinterest is an excellent way to get ideas for DIY decor projects. I'm also on a tight budget and shop at Walmart, Target, Ikea, Homegoods, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Hobby Lobby/Michaels/AC Moore (with 40% off coupons from their websites) and even discount stores like Big Lots.
The important thing is to have a plan BEFORE you start buying a bunch of stuff, or you're sure to waste money on things that don't work in your space. Also, something I learned over time is that it's often more important how something "feels" over how well the color matches everything. For example, I was looking for a large red vase and wasted money on one that was indeed red but didn't have the sleek, contemporary feel I was looking for. It was the right shade of red so I bought it, but because it had a traditional, almost ornate look to it, it was all wrong in the space.
Good luck and let us know what you come up with!
