Hair help?

I'm getting married in a year and a half (which I realize seems like forever away), but I want my hair to look great. Currently the ends are fried and it looks...dry.

I want to grow it out as long as possible, so how often do I really need to get a trim?

Also, does the brand of shampoo really matter? If so, suggestions? I also use a flat iron daily, so I'd like to find a good heat protector and/or leave in conditioner. Any suggestions there?

 Thanks in advance!

Re: Hair help?

  • No advice on anything you asked about (I'm helpful like that!) but taking biotin really helped my hair- My stylist recommended it to me in January and by May I had easily grown 3"+ of hair. And as a nice side affect, it made my nails stronger and helped keep my skin clear : )

  • Hair extentions work wonders!
  • Hi Becca,

after the shower apply some drops of olive oil (from a grocery store) on the wet hair,

also very good as heat protector.

the hair extensions idea like someone said here is a really bad one (unless you do it for one evening only), it's been proven that it weakens the hair, and causes baldness effects.....

    good luck :)))

  • I swear by sulfate free shampoo. I use a blow dryer and flat iron almost daily without heat protector and notice very little dryness or damage. Also Aussie 3min miracle treatment is a great (and cheap) conditioner.
    • Take Biotin.  Look at the health food store or online for a dosage amount.
    • Get micro trims (less than an inch off)  every six to eight weeks to keep from damaging things more and make the ends healthy again.
    • I use Sojourn for a thermal spray even with the blowdryer and especially with the flat iron.  Biomega Behave can smooth things out and act as a therrmal protectant too.  Never go without a thermal protectant and try to minimize heat.
    • Use a good sulfate free shampoo and conditioner.  I use Alterna Caviar or Sojourn's Color Protect Shampoo and Conditioner.  I've heard great things about Oribe.  Good shampoo and conditioner make a world of difference.  Stay away from the drugstore stuff.  It has parabens (wax to weigh your hair down), sulfates (detergents that strip it), and sodium which will dry it out more.
    • Try to cut the amount you wash your hair.  Over washing drys out your scalp and hair causing more damage.  Dry shampoo is your friend.  Ojon and Alterna make great powders.  Psssst! and Batiste are cheaper and work well.  Stay away from Sauve and Tresemme.  They will make your hair look dirty, weigh it down, and are not worth wasting money on to try something cheaper.
    • I'm a bottle blonde with softer hair than several friends who don't color their hair.  My hair gets mistaken for natural blonde hair regularly.
    • Try virgin coconut oil as a leave in treatment.  Warm it in your hands, rub it through, and let it set for a while before rinsing.  Google for instructions.
    • Only do temporary take out extensions.  The sew in kind require massive maintenance and cause massive damage.
    • With hair products, you get what you pay for and not paying a lot tends to end up causing more damage.  There are very few ways to maintain healthy hair with cheap drugstore product.
