I've been dating this guy for a little over 6 months and I recently found out his mom and aunt got me a Christmas gift. I feel loved and appreciate it but now I want to get them something small and thoughtful. I was thinking of it before I found out but didn't want to "rush" anything I guess.
Now here's my issue...I have no idea what!
His mom lives out of state while his aunt lives in the area. His mom is in his mid 50's and his aunt is between 75-80 and has all her wits...lol.
Help!
P.S.
I'd like to stay under $20-$25...
Re: Boyfriends Family
My go-to is food. If they're local, bake something yourself. If they're somewhere else, send some "made in your hometown" specialty goodies. What are they into? I've ordered the most random food on Amazon.com and just had it shipped to them. Balsamic vinegar, beef jerky, chocolate, treats for their pets.
Booze - if you know for sure they drink. How about a bottle of champagne for them to toast on New Years?
For mom - when's the last time your man sent her an honest to goodness real old fashioned hard copy photo of himself? Upload some from his recent adventures to whatever photo website you like, and let them ship it directly to her. Note: you don't have to be in all the photos with him, mom might like some of just her son.
In these situations, when you don't know someone very well, I love giving something of yourself. Bake them cookies that are a family recipe or send them something that represents your region. If you know one of them loves reading, send them your favorite book and a letter explaining how much it means to you, or your favorite dvd with some fancy popcorn and a box of candy.
Or, if there is a great photo of the mom and/or aunt with your BF, you coud have it framed nicely, turned into an ornament, or a million other things (look at websites like Snapfish or Shutterfly).
They key here, I think, is to make it simple and meaningful, rather than expensive or trying-to-hard. What probably matters most to these ladies is that their son/nephew is with someone thoughtful and caring, so a gift from your heart will be perfect.
