Refacing old Cabinets w/routing Link included!
Good Morning,
Just a quick question! Our cabinets are real wood and have this old routing in them. I would like to paint them or stain them but I want to get rid of the routing. Anyone know any tricks besides getting new cabinet doors?
Would wood filler work to hide the routing? Would you paint or stain? Any advice would be great!
I couldn't figure out how to pip so here is the direct link

Re: Refacing old Cabinets w/routing Link included!
I saw in a magazine taking that wanscoating (i think its called? Its the light wooden panels that people somestimes use on the bottom of walls or bathrooms...) was used and it looked really cute. They cut panels to match the size of the doors. Then they added new knobs. It looked so good for so cheap!
I think I saw it in the HGTV mag or Better Homes and Gardens! Those websites might also have suggestions~
Definitely DON'T use wood filler. It's just not designed to fill large gaps like that. It shrinks and cracks.
If you really don't like the look of that routing, then I suggest you pop for new doors. You can order replacements online from a number of online cabinet shops. Some will allow you to paint or stain them yourself to save money. But, you could always paint them as is and then see if you like them.
Good luck!
