The real reason behind the Papa John's price increase
Re: The real reason behind the Papa John's price increase
Is anyone else reminded of the Napster episode of South Park?
Shoot, I don't know, they might have had to forego it to be able to fit the motorized turn table for the limousines.
His "carriage house" is easily twice the size of my place ::sobs::
Please, tax him less so I can get in on that trickle.
Eta: after further investigation, the carriage house is more like quadruple the size of my place.
No car elevator? Poor papa j, life is rough.
That'd be one golden shower I'd like to be in on.
Wait what?
Apparently he owns more houses elsewhere, too! Sheesh.
I got a laugh out of this one. The guy that owns several of our local Dunkin Donuts lives down the road....he has a 6 bay garage with room for 18 cars. You guessed it...three levels with an elevator for them.
I think I might be responsible for that elevator with my DD habit.
ha ha! Way to help to help the rich get richer, MrsG. Wait - we all do that! Lucky bastards.
You, know, I think he needs a tax credit. He just does not have enough expensive crap. If we all ban together I think we can ensure he gets four more cars by Christmas.
Four more cars! Four more cars!
Am I the only one chanting? Hey.
I am just curious how you feel the owner of Papa Johns is any different than say, Angelina Jolie. She owns 5 houses, 5 cars and has a net worth of $120 million.
Do you feel there is a problem with that?
*le sigh*
Angelina Jolie doesn't own a nation-wide company and have a responsibility to employees...?
... was that a serious question?
Edit: notes that I'm pointing out the difference, I still don't give a flying flvck how many houses either of them own.
Did she just fire a bunch of people and blame it on Obamacare? Cause I'm not sure what you are getting at if not.
How is that even a comparison?
I was asking this question in earnest. So it OK to be rich as long as you aren't firing people?
Are you being deliberately obtuse here?
The Papa John's guy is trying to prevent his employees from having health benefits in favor of larger profits for himself.
Angelina Jolie played Lara Croft.
If we found out that Angelina Jolie was treating her employees like the Papa John's guy treats his, then yes, I would judge her as well.
But she's not.
But the question does not relate to the conversation. PJ's founder is complaining that health care is cutting into his profits while living like a king. It has nothing to do with other rich people.
For the record, I don't care if anyone has a car elevator. But I won't feel bad for them if they do and then act all woe is me over the ACA. Folks can't pay their medical bills. I save my sympathy for them
I just wanted to clarify the distinction that was being made.
And unfortunately, whether right or wrong, I feel there are going to be many other companies who will cut jobs or employee's hours as a result of the ACA. Not saying that it is right, just saying it will most likely happen.
The Papa John's CEO claimed that he has no choice but to fire people because the ACA is going to raise his costs so much that he won't be able to afford to keep them on the payroll. It turns out that this is not true- the company's expenses are not going to exceed its income, it's just that the share of the profits going directly into the CEO's pocket will be a bit smaller.
Wealthy people are okay. Business owners making tough decisions based on finances are okay. Wealthy business owners using the ACA as a convenient excuse to fire their employees so that they personally do not experience even an infinitesimal decrease in their take-home income are not okay.
What does Angelina Jolie have to do with any of this?
It's not that he's rich, it's that he's complaining about having to pay for health benefits for his minimum wage employees while he's obviously doing extremely well for himself. He's not a small business owner struggling to bring in $50,000 a year.
There was talk of several cars, houses, etc. I picked Angelina Jolie out of the air. I missed the whole point of Papa Johns...I was just trying to play catch up here to fully understand what was being discussed...and you clarified it for me...thanks.
They have already been doing this, Cincy. That's the point. And most of those who have claimed it is the fault of the ACA have been exposed as actually having different reasons for laying people off.
I'll just go ahead and declare it is wrong, so you don't have to.
Missy, yes I know....and I never said it was right...
