OK, another job/traffic question!

I decided not to go to the job interview in Rockville; I felt like I would be wasting everyone's time as I knew I would miserable.

I just received an offer for an interview for a job I really want, am really qualified for, and am very excited for that's located in National Harbor. Mapquest shows it as being about 28 miles/40 minutes away from Crofton. For this job, I would definitely do that commute.

I know traffic on 495 going from 50 to north/west is miserable, I've seen it firsthand. I've never gotten the impression that it's as bad going south toward Alexandria -- perhaps because there's the option of 495 or 295 -- but I could be entirely wrong. Does anyone know if there's usually traffic snarls going that way?

No matter what, I'm definitely going to this job interview. I'm very excited!

Re: OK, another job/traffic question!

  • I go down 50 to the beltway in the mornings and it really isn't that bad. Yes, there are days its bad, but that's everywhere. I go the other direction on the beltway, so I don't know if it backs up, but when I get one, its looks like it moves.  I would say that isn't too bad of a commute. It takes me about 40 minutes (usually) to get to College Park, which is 20 miles from my house in Piney Orchard.

  • I have occasionally taken 50 to 495 and 495 to 50 West when traffic on 95 and 295 are bad. Most of the time it is not too terrible. However, it is particularly bad (going West, anyway) on weekends in the summer.

  • Traffic just sucks in general in that area, sorry.  I imagine its only going to get worse when the new casino opens.
