Re: ahh almost friday....

  • I'm bored too, but thankfully the day has gone by pretty fast and I only have a half hour left.  I'm excited it's almost Friday, but even more so that it's almost the weekend!! My parents and grandparents are coming to our house for the weekend and we are removing the carpet from our two bathrooms that are carpeted!!!!!!!!  Can't wait for this project to be done!!

The week has been pretty hectic trying to get things done in the house before everyone comes.  We wanted to paint one of the bathrooms before they put the tile in, so that was our task last night and we'll finish it tonight!  Other than that just cleaning and trying to stay focused at work.

  • My week has gone by so slow. I think I'm just anxious because tomorrow is my last day at this job. It feels awesome, like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders!

I agree - I'm just ready for the weekend and some time off to get the rest of the boxes unpacked, some projects done, and to relax.

Your house has to look gorgeous because you and your H are always working on it! I bet it's going to feel amazing once this project is done. It always feels amazing when a room looks like your own and not someone else's!  It's super strange that your bathrooms have carpet! haha I would be excited to that to be gone, too. Did an older couple live in your house before you? I have noticed that older couples tend to have very different taste.

  • I'm bored at work too. Very slow day today. I'm excited for my 3 day weekend! (I have every other Monday off)

Also, TMI but I have been trying to figure out my BC and I have been spotting (light and heavy) since late last month with no break. It sucks but I just have to get through it. Hoping I can regulate it soon because today really sucks and I'm starting to feel crampy.

I'm also jealous of the both of you with your houses! I can't wait till H and I can get a place of our own but I think the only thing we'll be able to afford is a town home. :/ It's too expensive to live in Orange County. Since my H is not currently Active military we don't get to move around to cool places like other families.

  • BC and all of the period stuff from taking it sucks! I'm on mirena and I was suppose to not have periods for at least 3 years and they never stopped. Kinda made me sad - I was excited for no periods.  They still come regularly but a little bit lighter.

We started out in a townhouse and lived there for 3 1/2 years. It was a great place to start out and get money in order to save for a home.  It would be cool if you could move around and live in a bunch of different places. Is there no chance that you would ever be able to do that?

  • That sucks too! Just wish it would regulate already!

We aren't looking to rent. Did you rent or buy? We are trying to pay off his current loan as well as working on getting me a new car. So we're staying with my mom pretty much rent free. It will be over a year before we can start saving for the closing costs of our future home. We hope to use his military bank to get a loan which will qualify us to buy a place with no down payment. But we still won't qualify for very much which is why I know we'll either get a town home or a small fixer-upper house. If we moved out of the state I know we could afford a huge house! Too bad I like California weather so much.

  • KBabe - I hope your last day at work tomorrow goes super fast!! It's exciting that you are getting to move on to something that you will enjoy!

Our house is slowly coming along but I get so excited to see the little changes and watch it become more and more "ours."  The bathroom is probably our biggest project change wise so far because we are pulling the carpet, painting, and changing the toilet.  The house was built in the 70s so I think that is part of the reason for the carpet and the other is the lady we bought it from said she didn't like having cold feet in the morning...hence the carpet in our master bath.  The toilet we are replacing HAS to go as it is chocolate brown and hideous.  Unfortunately the sink is also brown but for now we are leaving it as the whole vanity would have to be knocked out because of how they put it in so we are going to put that off for a while (with the theory that changing the floor, paint, and toilet will be enough for now).

Tyleet87- My parents lived out in California right before they got married and I know my Dad has told me before how crazy the prices on housing is out there...I wish you guys they best of luck and know you will get there eventually!!

  • Tyleet ? We rented our townhouse.  Sounds like you have a good plan though ? get a car and pay off a loan then look for a place to live.  It?s super helpful that you can stay with your mom right now and save money.  I can?t even imagine how expensive the housing market is in California!  It?s super inexpensive to live in where we are in NE PA.  We never would have come close to being able to afford the house we got if it was somewhere else.  GL saving!

Aneubaue ? Thanks!! I hope it goes fast too! I plan on spending all day on here and sending a few emails to let clients know I?m leaving.  I?m excited to celebrate later at happy hour and I get 10 days off in between jobs so it?ll be nice to relax and hopefully get a lot of house stuff done.

Oh the 70s! That explains it all! haha  I guess I understand the women?s reasoning for carpet in the bathroom but has she not heard of bathroom area rugs?! That carpet has to be gross with it getting wet everyday from getting in and out of the shower.  Hopefully all of the changes will make the chocolate sink look better. Are you almost done with your bigger home projects?  It seems like you and H and have working hard for awhile.

  • Haha we thought the same thing about the idea of area rugs for the bathroom but one only knows.  Thankfully after this weekend it won't be a problem anymore...I just cringe at the thought of how disgusting the carpet probably is in the two bathrooms.

I feel like we are getting closer to having a lot of our big projects done.  We still have the shutters on the front of the house to paint but we're going to take them down and work on them during the winter so they can be put back up in the spring.  Thankfully the back half of our basement has a little work bench and space so we can easily set up a station and get them done.  There are 2 windows left that we absolutely want to get done before the first snow but we'll see....with the bathroom project it might have to wait.  Otherwise once the bathrooms are done inside we don't have anything planned for a while.  Painting an accent wall in the living room eventually but we haven't picked a color yet and that shouldn't take too long.

Have you and DH planned any projects for your new house yet?

  • Thank you both! It's just too bad that he took out that loan. We didn't think about it at the time. We were able to pay our wedding in cash from the saving we did though our engagement. He took out a loan to pay for his car as well as our Ireland honeymoon. They only allow one loan out at a time so we have to pay that one off as soon as we can so we can get one for a house.

Good luck to the both of you on your house renovations. I'll get there eventually! :)

  • We have planned a few projects! We've gotten a decent amount done, too. Our house was built in 1991 and the older couple that owned it put so much time and thought into everything when they built it and kept it up. So there was nothing that absolutely needed to be done except the carpet was ripped up in the master from their dog. So before we moved in my FIL put in laminate flooring and both of our dads painted the room light purple with a dark purple accent wall. It turned out really nice! And we painted the living room yellow before we moved in. FIL replaced the kitchen chandiler, too. But it was just a few minor things. Nothing big had to be done and now we're slowly getting to each room to make it our own.  The older couple loved wall borders. Literally every room had a border. So we're working on getting rid of that.  And the master had pink carpet and pink walls with a pink flowered border! It was not pretty! haha

The biggest project is probably going to be the basement. Half of it is finished and the other half isn't. Then they put a wall in to divide the finished side. Eventually we want to take the wall down so you just see the supports and make a bar area then when we have kids it will be a play room.

We would like to move onto painting and putting a tile back splash in the kitchen.  I need some ideas tho! What colors are your kitchen? Do you have a theme or just matching colors?

  • I'm late.

But I'm so happy the weekend is here! As of now I have all of next week off Big Smile I work as a substitute and the kids only have school Monday and Tuesday. I'm excited for the days off, but not about the lack of paycheck I'll have.

I also wish H and I could afford a house. Right now we're renting and it's not fun.
