Restaurant Rec for NYC?

We're going to NY tomorrow to see Mary Poppins at New Amsterdam Theatre. Is anyone familiar with this area? i'm obviously going to google/yelp/etc. but I thought if anyone has a lunch spot thats tried and true that would be cool.

Dude and his parents eat ANYTHING. As long as there is either brunch/chicken/pasta option, I'm happy.

  • It's all so touristy around there. I would stay away from Guy Fieri's new place there as it just got PANNED by the NYTimes. We always eat downtown and either take a cab or the train back.

  • If you are facebook friends with her, ask Jewels. She's my NYC guru.
  • Yup, we're friends :) I will email her (if she isn't here)

  • I am so bad with knowing where anything is in NYC. The last few places I've been to are: Cookshop (near the Highline - maybe its Chelsea?) ; The Mermaid Inn (UWS), and The Mercer Kitchen (SoHo). So, not sure how close/far those are from the theatre district, but each place was good!

  • We ate at Lidias restaurant, Becco, last time we went. It was off the beat and path a little no clue of the area maybe mz.. Can help me out. The food was amazing, different Italian food than in used to, we loved it. I would go back just for the grilled bread with fresh mozzarella.

  • A few years back we went to one of Mario Batali's places for lunch after my cousin's nursing school graduation.  It was within walking distande of NYU. For the life of me, I cannot remember the name, but it was tasty!
  • Babbo? Although that's downtown, I don't know where the nursing school graduation is held.
