Disney WWYD?

My friend has been offered a weeks stay at her DH's aunts time share in Disney. She invited us along. It should be a no brainer to go since we'd have a free place to stay, right?

Well here is the dilemma. They are going early/mid June, we already have a week long vacation on OBX scheduled in mid July. So I was thinking of maybe doing Disney Sat to Mon to minimize the time off work. I've never been to Disney, so I was wondering if this was doable?

DD will be 2 and we had planned to go to Disney when she was older. But I figured this might be an easy way to get a feel on what to do where to stay when we take that bigger trip. I know we won't be able to do everything in 3 days, but will it be worth it go for three days?

I just need to sell DH on the idea since he already doesn't like the idea of the amount of money we are spending on going to OBX. Help me!!!!

Re: Disney WWYD?

  • Could you possibly extend it one more day? I'm just thinking that a fair amount of time is going to get eaten up with airports/flights so with Sat-Mon, you'd really only get 1 *full* day which might not be worth it. I'm sure DD will love it though!!

  • I would say it's doable but just mentally prepare yourself that it will be really hot and crowded that time of year. With that amount of time and a 2 year old, I would probably just do Magic Kingdom and one other park (maybe animal Kingdom) and then plan for pool/nap times. I'd say it's definitely worth it to take advantage of a free place to stay even for just 3 days.
  • I think it's do-able.  Not sure when your friend has the timeshare.... but if they checkin on Friday, you could fly in late friday night then get up early sat to hit the park or take a really early flight out saturday and prepare to hit the park once you get there.  I would only do Magic Kingdom and then Sunday maybe go to Sea World or Animal Kingdom.  They are smaller parks but great for little kids with all the animals.

  • We went when DD was ~22 months old and I was ~22 weeks pregnant I think?

We got in on a Wednesday night- so DH did not that day off from work, and had Thursday, Friday, Saturday and half of the day Sunday in the parks. It was fine- yes, there was more we could have seen, but 2 yr olds aren't really built for maximum park exploration.

Could you leave Thursday post-work or take half a day or something to get down to Orlando on Thursday night? Then you would have all day on Friday.

Definitely look into discounted park passes from AAA or the dealer that is recc'd by mousesavers.com

  • It's do-able but I wouldn't do it. I think your dd is too young to really enjoy it. You still have to worry about naps as well. Although it would be a nice opportunity to go for much less money than normally, I still think it is money you could safe now towards a trip when she is a little older and can really enjoy and remember it.

  • you can't do everything in 3 days but you can at least do a park and maybe a character meal or two.  if you can get early flights that might help.  I'd still go
  • My concern is cost, I'm not sure it would be worth the travel costs for such a short time, if you get a deal on airfare, go for it
