Photo Christmas Cards without Kids...?

My husband and I didn't get engaged, married or pregnant this year.  Actually we've been happily married for 6 years and are childless (by choice).  99.8% of the time, when we get a Christmas card in the mail, the card is a photo of kids or after a life event, such as an engagement, wedding, pregnancy or birth.

I personally love getting photo Christmas card in the mail from family and friends, but I'm wondering... is it weird to send out Christmas cards of just the two of us (after 6 years of marriage)? We travel quite a bit so maybe a picture of us from our last trip?  Or a picture of us with our pet?  I don't want to appear narcissistic, so I thought I'd ask to hear others thoughts on this.

Thanks!

Re: Photo Christmas Cards without Kids...?

  •  I don't see anything wrong with sending a photo card. I've gotten plenty of photo cards from friends and family with and without kids. As far as which photo to include, that is up to you. I think any photo would be fine, but if you want a christmas themed one with your pet, I'd go to a pet store, like Petsmart, while they are having photos with Santa and get one that you can take and make copies of. I like getting those photos because half of the money goes to charity.

  • We don't have kids (not by choice), and we've been married for almost 3 and a half years.  We're sending out a photo card this year that has 3 slots in it...one will have a pic of just the two of us, one will have a pic of our dog, and one will have a pic of our guinea pig.  Yes, even our guinea pig gets to be in the card.

I don't think it's weird at all.  You're a family, with or without kids.

  • Nope not strange at all. We like sending photos at Christmas no matter what's going on in our lives.
  • Thanks ladies! I think we will go ahead and mail out a photo card of us! I do like the pet idea! :)
  • I've received photo cards from couples with no kid shots.  We've always sent out photo cards with just the 2 of us.

  • That's not weird at all. I've received plenty of cards like this, and I like them just as much as the others.

  • I love this!!!! One year I managed to pose my cat and guinea pig together.  It was amazingly cute and never happened again.
  • This year I bought some Christmas cards that were handmade by women in Honduras, but one of these years I am so going to pose with my DH and two dogs in the traditional "family photo" setting and make Christmas cards.
  • My aunt and uncle who lost their only child when he was a young adult continued to send picture cards of them usually from a vacation. We married later in life and have been married for 2 years. One card was the wedding, the other our belated HM a year later. This year i plan to do a collage of pictures from our sailboat charter in the British Virgin Islands. So --- not wierd. I personally think it is odd that people do one of just the kids. I am friends with them and would like to see the parents in the picture too.
  • Hi Blue Eyes,

Getting photo Christmas cards in the mail is so much fun! In addition to Starbucks peppermint mocha, Christmas cards are one of my favorite things about the holiday season! For this reason, my husband and I still send an annual photo Christmas card from Shutterfly (always get the best deal there) even though we don't have kids.

We tend to keep them light-heartded, so we usually include a photo of us in ugly Christmas sweaters, or we take a photo with our dog with Santa at Petsmart.

    Go for it!
