What to wear to a holiday party at the boss's house??

DH's boss at his new company is hosting a holiday party at his house, DH just started there so he doesn't know anyone too well and I don't know anyone there obviously, so I need some help with this. He is telling me its casual but I am not sure where he is getting that from. Thanks!!

  • Get your hands on the invite and see what it says.

My rule is to always overdress for an occasion. I end up feeling better if I'm slightly more dressy than everyone else versus underdressed and looking not a good.

"Casual" is a dangerously vague word to tell people. To sme it means sandals and others it means dressy jeans.

No matter what, lean toward the dressy side.

Also, why doesn't your DH ask around the office. "Dude, what are we supposed to wear to this thing, my wife is asking and I have no idea what to tell her."

  • I agree with above poster.  If he can't/won't/doesn't ask for you........I would go with dressy black pants and a fun/festive and dressy top.  That way, your dressed for either end of the spectrum.  Or, LBD is always appropriate as well.  You can dress it up with jewelry.  And, worst case scenario is to carry a different set of jewelry in your clutch (dressier vs more everyday).  Have fun and good luck!
  • I am wearing skinny black pants, leopard ankle booties, a sparkly tank, and a black blazer to my dh's Christmas party :)

This.  You can never go wrong with black slacks and a festive top. You could wear this outfit with sky high heals to dress it up or flats to dress it down a little.  The jewelry can dress it up or down as well.  A basic black dress could be done the same.
