Packing Heat

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/slideshow/2012/11/16/celebs-packing-heat/?intcmp=features#slide=1

I was surprised by a few of these celebs carrying or owning  (Pitt and Jolie). Others, I figured would be on the list (Trump and Eastwood).

It does make me wonder, if Brand and Angelina own guns how many other celebs that we wouldn't assume own, do own.

I was also particularily intrigued by Pitt's commentary on the matter.

Re: Packing Heat

  • I think you would be surprised by who owns guns and enjoys shooting.

  • What Ella said.

It's the same as smoking pot.  You would be surprised at the kind of people who smoke it regularly.

  • I am amongst those who own firearms and enjoy shooting.
  • If I was a celebrity I think I'd be more likely to invest in a gun, for fear of crazy stalkers.

I feel like there is a hilariously filthy joke in here, about Ella and lies and "packing"... but I just can't reach it.

  • I'm not surprised by any of those. I agree with PPs that it's usually people you really don't expect.

  • when DH and I started dating and I saw this HUGE safe in his room and I knew he had guns, I just didn't ever want to see them.  I was so anti gun.  Then when he was moving into my house we had a huge fight about the gun safe.  He wanted it in the bedroom closet and there was no way I was having a gun in my bedroom.  So its currently in the basement.  Honestly I don't mind the idea so much now and I brought it up to him a couple months ago that i would like to learn how to shoot at a gun range.  Then if he could get a small safe for the bedroom I would be cool with that if it was in the closet.  my main fear was DD getting into it one day.  but with the one downstairs you have to know the combination to get in.  you never know when you may have to use a gun these days.

You bring up a huge point regarding guns, safety, and kids.

Kudos to you for wanting to learn. Seriously, it's kind of a life skill - the way I see it. Even if someone doesn't own a gun, which is fine, I still maintain they ought to know how one works and how to load and fire. The world in which we live is waaay to unpredicable to not know this skill.

I researched very heavily the right/best safe to have. With the safes, locks, and safety features on the weapons themselves, you do have to go to a lot of trouble and have a lot of knowledge to load one, let alone fire one.

Our kids are too little to know we have anything at home now, but when they are older and with proper traning and safety, they will learn how to be around a gun, to handle and shoot a gun, and what to do if a gun ends up near them.

DH and I see guns like we see water and fire. They are destructive, violent deathly forces not to be messed with but to be respected. It is okay to have a healthy fear of them built out of respect for their power, but to not be petrified of them.

I think there are enough crazy people and bad people in the word these days with access to guns that it makes sense for citizens to have some level of protection in the home.

I grew up in a home without guns. My dad had a baseball bat near his bed.

I always thought that was fine and then I realized how short and weak I am compared to how tall and heavy a (probably) male intruder would be. If he got close enough for me to swing at him with a bat - I'd be done for. He'd take it from me and well.......yeah.
