Do your fear a nuclear war?

If everybody fired their nukes at each other then yes a nuclear war is possible but it would mean killing off most of the human race. But realistically speaking nuclear war is not that likely because nuclear weapons are used as a deterant rather then as a weapon of mass murder. That's how I see it.

Nowadays countries would rather trade and earn money rather go to war or even nuclear war!

Thoughts...

Re: Do your fear a nuclear war?

  • I fear crazy despot leaders who would wield their missile like it's their magic stick. Iran and North Korea are prime examples.  They aren't rational leaders.

  • Honestly, no. I do think there is a possibility of nuclear war, but its not something I fear or think about on the regular.  If a decision is made to fire nuclear weapons at the USA, then I'm going to play no part in that decision.  Since there is nothing I can do about it, I can see no point in worrying about.  I'm pragmatic like that.

No, I don't fear nuclear war, and I'll even go so far as to largely disagree with Ella here. Ahmadinejad might be a lunatic but he isn't really in power anyway. The leadership and the Ayatollah want to feel important but they aren't suicidal enough to actually nuke Israel or something.

And I think that North Korea stopped a lot of their posturing when Kim Jong-Il died, but I could be wrong there.

The only thing that concerns me is the potential for terrorist groups getting their hands on such weapons. Actual governments, not so much. No matter how crazy the leaders, they'd much rather have power vs be bombed back into the stone age. Qaddafi dropping his WMD program after we wrecked Iraq is a prime example. 'course, didn't work out too well for him in the end, but that was his own fault.

  • Dirty bombs by small cells are more realistic, you are right.  The bigger nations use them more as a threat in their posturing.  That's more what I meant.
  • Nope.  If one starts I won't be able to do anything about it.  And I will probably be dead, along with everyone else.  So no, it doesn't bother me at all.  There are MUCH bigger problems in this world to get worked up about.

God it is so refreshing to see someone who actually knows what she's talking about in a foreign policy thread.

    Ha, thanks? Stick out tongue

I'm an international relations junkie (and student). Come election time, everyone else is talking about the economy and I'm more worried about who is going to let Israel draw us into an unnecessary war with Iran. Silly me.
