Pots and Pans

So I decided I want some new pots and pans for Christmas. We have 2 old sets but I always need something bigger/deeper but I cant decide if I want to go with stainless steel or the ones that are non stick. I love non stick because obviously, things dont get stuck to it and seem to be easier to clean but what are the benefits of stainless steel? I'm afraid of getting stainless steel and then everything gets burned onto it and sticks.

Re: Pots and Pans

  • If there are benefits to stainless steel over non stick I don't know what they are.  I have both and I always choose non-stick over the stainless steel.
    my read shelf:
B's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • Honestly, if you already have 2 sets I wouldn't go out and get a whole new set.  Chances are the new set will have some of the same sizes as your old ones.  I would just figure out what I really need and buy those specific sizes individually.

As far as benefits, stainless steel is a lot more durable.  You can clean them with virtually anything and they'll be OK.  But you need to look for ones with an aluminum or cooper core.  They conduct the heat better.

May not bad idea, our stuff is a bit beat up by now though. Thanks!

  • I was one of those fools that fell for the extremely over priced pots and pans that they sell you at bridal shows. The Royal Prestige. I thought DH was going to kill me. Yeah, I almost killed myself afterwards, but I love them. i use them all the time and they are beautiful stainless steel. I learned that I can only make water based foods in them unless i have plenty of time to really pay attention to my cooking. DH likes to put everything on high to "pre-heat" the pan and with those you cant do that. They pick up heat way way too fast and thats when things burn.

Would I buy another set? Prob not. But since I spent more than our mortgage payment on 3 pans I will have them for life. Especially since they have a lifetime warrenty on them.

Yea, if I did that i prob shouldnt be coming home lol I read a little more into them online and as much as I would like a fancy set I think the teflon ones will fit into our lives a bit more. Did you know teflon is actually banned in CA? I never knew that.
