Leappad explorer?

Does anyone have this? If so what do you think about it? I'm wondering if it's worth it or is it basically the same as buying apps for the iPad?

I'm probably not the best one to ask because there's no way I'd give my kid an iPad to play with.The LeapPad is way more durable because it's made for kids. The games/apps can be pricey, but I usually wait until I can find a $20 app card for $12-13 around Christmas - or they just had BOGO sales on the game cartridges.

DD goes through phases where she'll play with it more - but it's not something she uses super regularly. I just bought a couple of new games for her for Christmas, just because she's basically done everything else on the one she has.

We don't have an iPad so I can't really compare the two, but like Val said, the Leap Pad is very durable and kid friendly.  Jake gets a lot of use out of his; he doesn't nap anymore, but I still make him have some quiet down time in his room, and often he'll use his leap pad at that time.  We take quite a few road trips throughout the year to visit friends & family who live out of town, and he enjoys playing games when we're in the car.

I opted to skip the kid "game" pads and buy a kid tablet. 

 I got the Nabi 2. I was able to get it Thursday online from Best buy for $129.99 usually 199.99.  It is durable and made for kids it is set up with an app store and educational games but since it is a Android 4.0 you can get any android app for it. it is also wifi capable and can be put in "mommy mode"  and used as a regular non kid tablet.

I just couldn't see buying a "toy" for 100 ( we were looking at the leap pad) and then still having to buy games that weren't the things he is already used to playing when we could just get the talet which will free DH's phone up for him to actually use! lol.
