hi ladies, just wanted to share as i got some ideas for this party on here and was asked to come back and tell you all how it went. I threw my dh a 40th beer tasting surprise party this past weekend, & it was SO great!!!! I am just still so happy with how it all went and definitely recommend the theme if anyone is thinking of doing it.
I rented out a barn, which was amazing as it had a lot of charm to it with christmas lights strung through the ceiling beems and had that old rustic feel to it, perfect for a "manly" type of party such as a beer tasting. I also hired a guitar player/singer, who was absolutely fantastic. We set up 3 different tables and got 7 cases of different types of craft beers. Instead of doing a table of "ales" "porters" and "lagers", which was my original plan. We got a bunch of different types of beers (there are so many!) and cut out the names on the cases and stuck them on the tables. Viola! It was brillant (actually my brother in laws idea, huge props to him) Also we had 3 different people "bartend" each station. Again different than my original idea, as I was just going to have tubs with the beers sitting on each table, and let people help themselves. But I thought this way was so much better! Our 3 bartenders (my brother, brother in law and friend/neighbor) all are into craft beers so they were really knowlegable and had a ton of fun doing it. As favors everyone got a 5 oz tasting mug (with my husband's face on it..hilarious!) which everyone used to go around to taste the beers. I decorated the place with "beer" posters and also part of the cases of beers that we used. Also as the beers emptied we lined the wall with the empty beer bottles, which was really cool looking. I also used beer mugs to put the beer caps in.
The food was mostly "pub" type of food...wings, ribs, sausage & peppers, roast beef, etc. I also did a little snack bar area with huge brandy type of glasses from michaels and put "pub styple" snacks in them, like jalepeano pretzels pieces, chips and nuts in them that I just got at the grocery store.
Such a fun theme and party!!! Everyone had a ball and participated & really enjoyed themselves. If anyone has any questions, feel free to pm me or leave a message here I'll come back. If I can figure out to post some pictures, I will.
