Turkey thaw time?

I put my 10.8 lb turkey in the fridge almost 24 hours ago. Still feels hard and icy to me. Turned the temp from 38 to 40 to see if that will help. Since this is my first turkey, not really sure what I should be expecting. When should I worry?

  • Looks like about 24 hours for every 4 pounds.  Looked it up here

Yea, I calculated the same thing off a couple sites, I just thought it would feel a little more thawed by now than it seems to be.

  • You can always put it in a cold water bath tonight if you're still worried about it.  What kind of turkey is it?  If it's a manufactured Butterball type from the grocery store (as opposed to one you bought from a local farm), I've thrown them in the oven before they were totally thawed and not had a problem.
