What did you do with your wedding dress?

I recently got married and I am trying to figure out what to do with my dress.Idea

Re: What did you do with your wedding dress?

  • I'm trying to decide the same thing.  I'd love to have it made into something else, but with the material and design, I'm not sure it's feasible.  Right now, it's hanging in the closet.  Seems a shame to not be able to use it again.

  • read something once where they cut off pieces of it and made it into a Christianizing dress for future babies and a handkerchief.
  • It's hanging in the bag in the closet... uncleaned. I got married last year. oops?
  • I kept mine, like PP's it's hanging in the back of my closet :-)

  • Kept mine. I wore it a second time for our 1st anniversary rock the dress session and then had it dry cleaned again. I like the idea of having it framed, maybe I'll be able to do that and will put in in my walk-in closet.
  • Other.  My wedding t-shirt is in a bag in the basement somewhere. I think.

  • We got married 6 months ago, and I did wear it again for a Rock the Dress shoot. It was a shame to not wear it again! I had it cleaned and preserved. I assume it will go into a closet eventually.

  • It's hanging in my closet, uncleaned.

  • I voted for preserved it and it is in the back of my closet, but the truth is I have yet to preserve it.  I am going to though (I keep meaning to send it off to get done), and eventually it will be in the back of my closet.

Seriously, people. If your faith in humanity is destroyed because your parents told you there was a Santa Claus and as it turns out there is no Santa Claus, you are an ignorant, hypersensitive cry baby with absolutely zero perspective. - UnderwaterRhymes

Me too...  Actually, it's been uncleaned in a closet since my mom first wore it over 35 years ago.  It's was fine for the first 35 years, so it'll probably be fine until I find something to do with it.

  • Already had it dry-cleaned and now I'm actively trying to sell it.

This is what I did as well. My mom gives me a hard time about it being in there, still uncleaned but I'm one of those traditional "wanna keep my wedding dress forever" girls and I'm totally fine with leaving it in the condition it was that night! :)

  • I wear it every year when we re-create our wedding ceremony on our anniversary and swear our undying love to one another.  That's normal, right?
  • Just got married two weeks ago so still deciding. In my area it's popular to do trash the dress photo sessions. A friend of my is a professional photographer so we may do this for fun with me wearing my dress while doing some of my favorite outdoor activites, (hiking, snowshoeing, or the beach depending on when we get around to doing this)

It is if you're Heidi Klum.  But that didn't work out so well for her...

  • Had it preserved, it's in a box in my parent's basement waiting to be sold/donated because I got divorced. I thought about doing a trash the dress thing soon after we got married, but it seemed horrible to waste such a beautiful dress when there's brides out there who really need one. If it doesn't sell, I'm going to donate it to military brides.

  • I may donate my gown to the local high school's theatre department.  My wedding was quite a while back; I don't care if I don't get a tax write off.

This is a great idea. Wish I tought of it.

I'm saving mine to make Christening gowns for our future babies.  My veil will drape over the bassinet.

Same here, and I've been married almost 2.5 years.

I should probably take it in to be dry cleaned eventually, as I would love to have my dress used to create a Baptism gown for future kids.

  • Its in the back of the closet uncleaned. I'll prob keep it that way, preserving it would be nice but I cant seem to want to spend my money that way.

I sold mine. Turns out the girl who bought it fell in love with the dress the day before at the bridal shop but they woulnd't have it in time for her wedding. She was almost the exact same size and bought it on the spot.
  • Mine is hanging in my closet, uncleaned. I'm planning to clean it and wear it for a little while every year on our anniversary. My mom does that and it's such a fun tradition! I love seeing her put on her dress! (Good motivation to keep the weight off, too!)
  • Hand washed it and hung it in the closet.  I have worn it several times since: at least 3 anniversaries (of 7, so not every year), a couple Halloweens, and a Christmas ball, at the very least.  I think I may have also worn it to a techno contra dance and a dance at a summer camp for adults, but I'm not sure.
  • I need to have mine cleaned. I got married oct 6th and its still laying in the floor of the guest room.  I haven't decided what to do with it.  I would love to do a fun shoot with it, but I need to loose some weight.  I gained 30 lbs after I bought it due to health issues and we just barely got me in it for the ceremony.  I like the thought of having a baby blanket made out of it or having it framed. If we have a little girl I would love to have her picture made in it as a toddler.  Time will tell.
  • I had mine preserved and boxed up. I considered donating it to charity, but my sentimental husband convinced me to keep it. He says I might have a daughter to give it to. I say that, based on the fact that his side of the family hasn't produced daughters in generations, that might not be something to expect (otherwise, most girls want their own wedding dress anyways).

So, not exactly sure why I kept it, but it is nice to look at it sometimes.

  • I plan on having it cleaned and preserved. My oldest step daughter asked me on my wedding day if she could wear it when she gets married. So I'm going to have it ready for her just in case she still wants to wear it.
