New tradition with husband

Husband and I have decided to implement a new tradition: the 12 Dates of Christmas! We just went on our first date and thought I'd share it.

Maybe someone else out there would be interested in joining us in this tradition!

Re: New tradition with husband

  • Just ran across this and I LOVE this idea! I am always trying to come up with fun and inexpensive date nights for DH and I. So far this year we have purchased a house, a new car, changed jobs, and got married, so the budget has been *tight* and if we don't plan dates ahead of time, we end up sitting on the couch on Friday night watching re-runs because we don't want to spend the money on going out (Groupon and LivingSocial are life-savers). I can't wait to get home and tell him about this idea, we still have a few weeks to stay in the Christmas mood and maybe fit a majority of these in!
  • What a great idea!  I wish I would have seen this earlier, but I'll try to squeeze in a few date ideas between now and Christmas:)  Thanks for sharing!

  • Sounds like my husband and I's past year. New car, wedding, move to FL, house shopping, both started new jobs, and I just graduated college in May. Please let me know what date ideas worked for you! I did do the 12 days of Christmas for him with small gifts. I can let you know how that goes!!! Happy holidays!
  • For our 12 dates, we did the following:

    1. Black Friday Shopping- (check)

    2. Making Christmas Ornaments- (Friday night this week)

    3. Christmas decorating (outside)- (check)

    4. Holiday lights tour- (This Saturday)

    5. Holiday in the Park (this one is expensive, but we wanted to take my ss, so we got a season pass and went once just the two of us, and are going again this week with ss)- (check and going again Wednesday night this week)

    6. Staying up late, watching Christmas movies, and sleeping on the couch under the Christmas lights (another that we are doing this week with ss cuz he has been begging us to sleep on the couch to "wait for santa") - (Tuesday night this week)

    7. Christmas Cookie baking- (Christmas Eve)

    8. Build a gingerbread house- (bought the supplies yesterday, will probably build on Sunday)

    9. Gift-wrap-a-thon (check)

    10. Reading Polar Express and 'Twas the Night Before Christmas- (Christmas Eve)

    11. Christmas Charity (Check)

    12. S'mores by the fire- (Sunday night)

So far we have only done a few of these but they have been really easy and DH got super excited (more so than I expected) and he has been counting down the days to the others. I love it :) And, because this is our year with SS, we have been able to include him in a lot of these too, so it may not be so much "date nights" for us as much as "family nights" but we plan to do it again next year with or without him here lol.

  • Sounds awesome, hope they all went well. :) husband loved the 12 days, thinking of doing something similar for Valentines Day.
