Here I Go! Looking for a buddy- 75 pounds to lose.

DH and I just had our 2-year anniversary. I was pretty happy, until I realized something- including the 35 pounds I gained when I moved in with him, I've gained 80 pounds since we got married!

Suffice to say, I'm mortified. In high school, I lost over 60 pounds, and kept it off til I met DH. I've tried to justify it. I was too busy, too tired, too this, too thatIn college, only 3 years ago, I was a dance minor, anddanced 4x a week plus extra hour workouts.  I refused to get a parking pass, so I walked to and from campus (probably 6 blocks) twice a day. I was in GREAT shape.

I'm tired of it. It's time. I'm here to say that I want to lose 75 pounds.  I'm now 220, and ideally I'd like to be 150, and go from there. (Edit:  So a size 20 jean, and I want to be a 12.)

To do this, I'll have to change my diet, and start exercising way more than I have in a while.

For my diet, I want to cut out processed food, drink more unsweetened tea ( I'm drinking crystal lite now), switch to low fat meat such as chicken and ground turkey, switch my pasta to whole grain, eat more fresh fruit and veg, and try to cut fat and gluten where I can ( as I was on a gluten free diet in college).

As for working out, I have a pedometer and want to start walking more with a goal, and do more cardio. I have Zumba, P90X, and Cardio Belly Dance DVDs...and might have a Wii after Christmas, and if I do, I'll get Wii Fit.

I might also start doing belly dance classes again in January, but I'd like to lose some weight before I return...

Anyone have advice or want to buddy up?

  • Wii Fit definitely helped me! When I was doing it every day, for about 30 minutes, I went from 210 to 175. Then I met my then boyfriend and gained it all back, so I know how you feel. Currently at 230 and looking to get to 160. My biggest thing is consistency; I tend to lose my motivation so I stop whatever I'm doing. My suggestion is start slow, pedometers are great; Zumba is AWESOME!! Also doing basic strength training helped. If you don't need a local buddy (or live in Northern Utah) I would be thrilled to have a partner in weight loss.
  • I know you can do it and I myself started my diet in April at 192 pounds. I am currently at 152 and dropped from a size 16 to now a size 8, I love it. I have done all this with Advocare and started with the Advocare 24 day challenge. After losing 17 pounds in the first 24 days I was thoroughly impressed and became a distributor of it. If you would like any information please Feel free to contact me at jennifer_73@att.net. This is not a scam and you can look at www.Advocare.com/120433477. You will see a picture of me and my fianc?e and read my story.

Best of luck to you and I know you can do it. If I can do this anybody can :-)

Can I ask what your wii fit routine was?  I am trying to get on  a good routine to get my heartrate pumping

    thanks

  • Good luck on your goals. Remember you didnt put the weight on in a month, so dont' expect it to come off that fast either. Weight loss is a long, sometimes frustrating process.

Have you thought about weight watchers? I know many people who have had significant success with their program (40-100lbs!)

My suggestion is to start a food log (my fitness pal is a great app you can get for free on android or iPhone). That way you can track your calorie intake and look at the breakdown of your fats, carbs, proteins daily and weekly.

It sounds like you have a pretty good idea of exercises that will keep you interested. If you have not been active over the time you gained the weight, I would start out a little slow (i.e. work out 2x a week for the first 2) to help prevent muscle soreness and during the first 2 weeks focus primarily on your diet. I have seen many people start a new plan and workout 4x the first week they are on their diet and then the next week they can't really move and they fall off the wagon.

Stay positive, find a couple workouts/exercises you like, and focus on your diet, lots of lean proteins and veggies is the way to go!

My favorite was hula hooping in Wii Fit Plus. But even just doing the Basic Step for 30 minutes (there's one where you can watch a different show while you do it, I think it's called 'Free Step'. it rocks!) makes a HUGE difference! Then I just split evenly between strength and yoga activities to help me get more flexible and strong. The Obstacle Course was also a fun way to burn calories and get your heart going.

  • Yay let's be weight loss buddies!

As for me, DH is off work all next week because he starts a new job the week after, so I won't have a ton of time next week to really get into it...I'm already cutting calories and want to walk next week, and throw Zumba in for a day or two.

      How are you doing?

  • Hey! Sorry for the delay, been dealing with family things after the wedding. I'm doing well, I went to the doctor and found out I had lost quite a bit, so I'm feeling really motivated! I started using the myfitnesspal app and I absolutely LOVE it!! It has helped me so much. I would recommend it :)

    How are you doing?

  • Whew. Sorry, life got a hold of me. :)

I did get a Wii Fit for Christmas, and I've been doing it since. Stared 30 min 3x/wk, I'm up to about an hr 4x a week. :)

I've *knock on wood* lost almost 20 lbs and I'm down from a tight size 20 jean to a comfortable size 18. Slow but sure, and I struggle a lot, since I have ED issues rolled in. :

      How're you?

  • Wow! Those are some great goals! You go girl!

My husband, who has struggled with weight even after taking up exercise and eating well, could not shed the last pounds to get to his goal weight..he started taking the Zeal for Life 90 Day Weight-loss Challenge and lost 12 of the pesky pounds in 14 days! We are so excited about this product! IM me for more information!
