and Christmas again :)

I appreciate people's thoughts and suggestions to my previous post.  I've decided that I will keep the tradition I've started and do a lasagna Christmas Eve.  My SIL, who has the daughter with dairy allergy, is going to bring a small dairy free lasagna for her child and the other lactose intolerant guest to enjoy.

I am now trying to figure out Christmas Day.  We do a BIG breakfast where people basically order; eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, pancakes, fruit salad w.yogurt, and home made breads.  This around 10am.  This is a group of 10 adults who will be with us for the day.  What else and when shall I serve?  I was thinking of ordering a deli meat platter and making a few soups or stews for a light dinner/lunch.  Should I set out heavy apps mid day?

Re: and Christmas again :)

  • I would add a salad for mid day. I don't know your crowd, but I might skip the heavy apps or just do one or two. It sounds like brunch will be pretty large.
  • I'm trying to figure out the timing for your day.  How late are people staying?  you mention lunch/dinner will people be there for dinner or are you trying to do one other meal to get through until people leave in the early evening?

First I'd add potatoes to breakfast because they are cheap and easy and I love a potato.  I'd probably do waffles or pancakes.  They are basically the same thing anyway so save some time and do one with a few syrups.

If people will be there into the evening or will have a drive home I'd put out some food ~1 or 2.  It doesn't need to be fancy, but some fruit and veg, a cheese plate, meatballs/lil smokies.  Then soup, sandwiches, and salad for dinner.

If people are leaving by 4 I'd just put out the sandwich stuff ~2.

  • The crowd will be there Christmas Eve for dinner and then leave on the 26th. I have the 26th all set for a lighter breakfast and then home made mac n cheese w/kielbasa for lunch. I had completely forgotten about potatoes! We'll add in some. I usually buy a few specialty waffle mixes at Stonewall kitchen and we prepare them ahead of time. I guess I'm thinking breakfast around 9-10 and then set out the cheese plate, fruit salad and some hot apps. Any soup suggestions for later in the day? I was thinking chilli and then maybe a chicken noodle. I must get a decent chicken noodle recipe if that's the case. TIA
