What can HR do (if anything)?

There is a lady in my office who has been sick for a few months now. She is constantly blowing her nose, extremely loudly and coughing every 5 mins very loudly. I am not sure how one human being could make so much noise, but she does. People who sit in our section have been complaining that it is  distracting and gross. They are fed up with up it bc it has been going on since September. She will not go to the bathroom to blow her nose, and seems she is not going to the doctor to care of it. Is there anything that HR can do about this? I hate to be person that complains, but it literally revolting and the entire section I sit in is fed up with her. Several people have mentioned going to HR, however can our HR dept even do anything about this? WWYD. Also my job and almost all my coworkers require us to be on the phone so popping in head phones does not work. Also sometimes people I speak with mention hearing her!

Re: What can HR do (if anything)?

  • We had a coworker that coughed, blew her nose, farted and hacked (she was a smoker and sick) everyday, someone did call HR but nothing could be done - we work in hospital office setting. It continued for years until she retied, there was a joke between coworkers about putting a plexiglass in between her and the others sitting next to her. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what can be done in this case....
  • Refer this to yoru boss and let the boss talk to her.

She may have a chronic allergic condition or post nasal drip and nothing contageous.  I will agree that it is distracting and gross.
