xp not losing weight

I am getting really depressed about this. I had my son, 19 months ago. i got pregnant in like july 2010, in january of 2010 i went off BC and gained a good amount of weight.

Then i got pregnant and gained some more weight. I think i topped off at 209 when i was pregnant. I lost like 20lbs right after having him, and was like 189. (this was in march of 2011). I can not lose any weight! I hover between 182 - 189lbs.

I eat, chicken, eggs, veggies, and sometimes fruit. The most we have in our house for processed food is frozen waffles, crackers, and some cans of soup. (which i dont eat any of that). Im not a HUGE sweet fan so thats not the problem. I eat turkey sandwiches. We rarely go out to eat. I just dont know where i am going wrong.

I started going back to the gym and really committing, ( i went after i had LO but we moved so i had to find a new gym) I go to the gym 6 days a week. Some times i will do cardio twice a day. So i can honestly say i am in the gym at least 8 times a week. This has been since the end of august.

Not one lb lost. not a one. I took pics of me in the summer and then last week to compare and you can tell a little little bit. Like in my arms and in my thighs and some weight is gone, but the scale has no moved, and if anyone else looked at them you could tell. I like zoomed in to every body part and compared.

I just dont know what to do. I talked to my doctor about it a couple of weeks ago and she suggested i need to bump my calorie intake up to 3400 calories a day! That just seems crazy and i am afraid to even try it because i dont want to gain any weight.

Any suggestions? I think maybe i should get my thyroid tested.

Im not on any medications, and im 5'7"

Re: xp not losing weight

  • I have been at the same weight ( to the OUNCE) since August! I run, swim, and do yoga at least three-five times a week! I do not eat process food! I cook 90% of all my meals! I walk to the grocery store, work , etc! I drink a cup of coffee each morning and water or hot tea ( with no sugar) the rest of the day! I portion each meal and only have pasta and potatoes once a week! I am losing my mind!!!! I lost thirty pounds last year and after my wedding I quickly gained back about 15 pounds! I don't know how to loose the weight added or get back to losing weight ! I feel your pain and I would love any suggestions on how to get past this hurdle!
  • You're probably trading muscle mass for weight loss- muscle weighs more than fat, so that's why you look different, but the scale isn't moving.

I would try to mix up your exercise routine. It could be that your body is used to what you're doing now and needs something new to jump start your weight loss, per se. For me, DVD workouts worked great for building muscle strength, but only running is what helped me lose the weight/inches.

It sounds like you're eating well. I ran into some issues when I was eating too little (tried to lose weight too fast) and I stopped losing weight by putting my body into starvation mode. Not a good idea. Now I try not to count the calories as much- too much of a mental game. Watch what kinds of food you eat and eat in moderation.

     Hope this helps!

  • Thyroid is worth looking into.  Especially b/c you have had a couple of kids.

Post a sample of your daily meals.  Maybe you're missing something.  It is hard to tell where you're going wrong if we don't know what a typical day looks like.

  • Have you considered counting your calories on a site like myfitnesspal.com?

It's possible you're UNDER-eating, in which case your body will hold onto every calorie you consume.

Count your calories for at least a week and you may see where you're going wrong.

  • I would count calories and see if you are coming in under- I stalled for a good four months because I wasn't eating enough, which felt completely counterintuitive to suddenly have to TRY to eat some extra calories.

  • see my post above about hypothroidism! I completely 100% undesrtand!!! get your thyroid tested - but make sure they test for both T3 and T4, not just your total TSH. That is hwo they discovered my issue.
  • After reading your post and all the comments I have a very good suggestion for you. Look at www.Advocare.com/120433477. That will take you directly to my website page for Advocare. I would look at the 24 day challenge if I were you because the first 10 days is a cleanse to help gently and safely remove any and all toxins from your body to get optimized for weight loss. On day 11 through 24 you will start with meal replacement shakes which will greatly help your calorie intake and nutrition. Plus the  MNSMax 3 will help with your Energy and appetite control. This is a great jumpstart for your weight-loss plateau. It's very important to look at the meal replacement and snack bars. They are all high in protein which our body needs to keep our Metabolism going. Plus they all taste absolutely delicious. This is not a scam and is a serious and good weight loss product. I hope you will have a look and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I am now up to 45 pounds less because of Advocare since April.  You can contact me anytime at jennifer_73@att.net.
