What are you getting DH for Christmas?

My DH's birthday is on the 18th, so I go crazy with the presents around this time of year. What does your DH want for Christmas? How many gifts do you typically get each other? If you have kids, were gifts different before they arrived?

So far, I've gotten DH a leather bag he wants for work, a dehydrator (apparently he wants to make jerky?), stemless martini glasses and a wireless mouse and keyboard. I still have some other stuff on my list -- cufflinks, a sport coat, and some Oakland Raiders gear (his football team). I don't think we're doing any huge presents this year, which I suppose is good for our bank account!

Re: What are you getting DH for Christmas?

  • DH wants a set of fancy dumbbells so I was going to get that. They've been one price for a couple weeks now, but I just saw that they went up $75 since yesterday!! Crap!!! They were already kind of too expensive to begin with. Hopefully the price will go down again or I can find them somewhere else.

As for how many gifts, it varies. We generally spend about the same amount of money for each person on our list, but for each other, we spend twice that (or more apparently - see above).

Last year was our first Christmas with DS and DH had him give me a couple gifts. For some reason I didn't think to have DS give DH anything and I felt *horrible* about it. This year I will get something for DS to give DH, just not sure what yet.

  • I'm clueless as to what to get him this year and he hasn't given me any ideas. We're also doing a $100 limit. Before he wanted a sound bar for the tv but it was on sale recently so he went ahead and got it. He has way too many clothes, he doesn't want any DVD's or CDs, he doesn't read and he doesn't need any cologne.
  • A few year's ago, money was beyond tight and DH sold off most of his instruments to pay bills.  I know he misses his guitars/drums so I am giving him a gift card to Guitar Center or Chuck Levin's.   He's going to be so excited :)

We usually keep it under $200 and only do one or two gifts.

    No kids yet.

  • DH wants a bed cover for his truck, but has told me it costs about a grand. Not happening. He's asked for some slippers, so I figured I'd get them, a GC or some items from this shaving store at Annapolis mall and maybe one of two Ohio State items. I usually say that most items are just from DD.

  • We usually spend between $300 - $350 on each other for gifts, but that's because we don't have kids!

I bought DH a new tool chest from Sears on Black Friday. It's already set up in the basement and he just has to put his tools in it! I might get him something really small to actually open up on Christmas morning, but since we travel for Christmas we're usually not a fan of loading up the car with gifts for each other so we usually exchange gifts before we leave.

  • You all are so generous :)  H wants a new drill and that's it. We really don't do gifts.

  • We don't exchange at all actually. But if there's something we want, we discuss it and then buy it. We do the same for birthdays also actually.

I tried very hard not to go overboard for DD1 for Christmas, but things keep piling up - darn it! DD2 isn't really getting anything because she doesn't know what's going on. We're doing a stocking for her though - pacifiers, onesies and diapers! To make Santa more realistic for DD1.

ETA - Before kids, we didn't really exchange either. We did when we first started dating, I can't really remember when we stopped.

  • The kids may get him something like a framed photo for his desk, we stopped exchanging several years ago.

DH needs NOTHING...I am constantly trying to get stuff out of my house!!

  • Normally we spend about $100 on each other. Every year I have to tell him what I want! But one year I just like one thing that is a surprise. But most guys don't think that way.

I got him some ravens gear and a game that he requested for the Wii.

Since the girls have arrived we are trying to do less for us, and more for them.

He needs a new radio for the garage.  He was going to go buy one last month, but I told him to hold off and I'd get it for him for Christmas.  I'm also getting him cocktail swizzle sticks (which he wanted for his birthday, but I couldn't find).

He's a little hit or miss w/ me - he normally ends up getting me random stuff at the grocery store - like a bunch of trashy magazines and fancy cookies - all stuff I like, but ugh, I'd like a gift that wasn't bought at Target or Harris Teeter.

We need some new small appliances - new toaster, new skillet - I may buy those for "us"

  • DH and I usually go kinda crazy at Christmas but this year we've set a $50 budget for each other. We're redoing our bathroom so that's kind of our gift to each other plus our limit helps us be able to spoil DD more :)

So far I've gotten DH this game he wants but I still have $30 left to spend and haven't thought of anything else so far.

  • DH tries, but ends up getting me a lot of odds and ends crap that I don't want/need. This year, I made sure my Amazon wishlist was up-to-date and sent him an email with links to what I wanted Embarrassed including size and colors.

I made him create a wishlist and I bought a bunch of stuff from it - mostly brewing supplies.

DD is getting a ton of presents from IL's (Hannukkah is 8 days, so one for each day). DH & I got her a few things and my mom gave me money to buy her Christmas presents. I'm tempted to not buy her anything and use the money that I would have spent to go to her college fund. Frankly, she doesn't need this much stuff or crap.

  • Our limit for each other this year is $350.

We went shopping on Black Friday (later in the day once all the crazies had gone home!) and wound up at Lowes.  I grabbed one of those handheld baskets that have wheels and he went to town.  Seriously, he was like a kid in a toy store tossing items he wanted into the basket!  Definitely made shopping for him easy this year!  I'll still get him a few surprise items, but I haven't determined what those items will be yet.
