re: gifts for DH

Those of you who buy gifts for your DH, I am just curious how you do it. If you share accounts, how do you keep him from seeing your purchases? use cash?

DH and I don't do gifts for the most part but when we do, we use our personal credit cards (as opposed to our joint credit card) and then go and pay it off as soon as the gift is opened.

Re: re: gifts for DH

  • We have separate accounts and check cards.
  • We used to each have our own credit cards, but now we share. I pay the bills so DH would never see the statement, and I do see the statement, but it generally comes after I've already received the gifts so it's not really a ruined surprise. Also, I kind of just scan the credit card statements for anything out of the ordinary. I don't do a line by line check or anything.

  • I use my credit card for everything and yes we share one checking account, but during this time of year I just don't look at his credit card bill when they come in. I just ask him if it's correct and pay.

  • We have one CC we use for everything so we can get points.

Unless he bought something from a jewelry store, it really wouldn't raise a red flag to me and his present will most likely come from BB&B/Home Depot/Target so he really wouldn't notice it either.

  • Most of our money is in a joint account, but we both have personal checking accounts, too. The money I earn from freelance writing goes in there; the money he earns from Ebay goes into his. That's what i buy gifts from, though we both have personal CCs that we could use, too.
  • We have separate accounts, so we just use those.

  • We also have separate accounts.

  • I handle all of the bills and balancing our accounts (They're all joint except for one where I put my weekly "allowance" into). So each week when we get paid I have a certain dollar amount automatically transferred into an online savings account specifically for Christmas presents. At the end of the year it has a good amount in there so then we can either use the attached debit card to buy things or I can w/d cash and give it to DH so that he can buy me gifts, if he wants to!
  • We each have our own credit cards. So we buy on the credit card, and then pay them with the joint checking.
