Pack N Play Question

So I finally registered!  With regard to the Pack N Play, I registered for a basic Graco model with a reversible napper/changer that is like 80 bucks.  There are others that have music and vibtration and a removable seat that are close to 200.  We also registered for a bouncer chair separately.   Is a basic Pack N Play without vibration, music, etc. ok? Are they worth the extra money?   I would like LO to sleep in our room with us in that probably through the summer. This would also be an issue if I have a c-section.  Is it okay to have a newborn sleep in one?  What part do they sleep in?   When should he transition to his crib?  We don't have central air, so if he goes in his room, we'll have to keep all the bedroom doors open with the window units running.  I am so confused with all of this stuff!

Re: Pack N Play Question

  • That sounds like the PNP I have on my registry. I'd be curious to see if all the vibration and music are needed or if they are just nice to haves... Everything in regards to baby gear is super confusing.

  • We registered for a pnp with the bassinet and changing station (Not sure if that's what you're talking about).  The bassinet had the music, lights and vibration.  TOTAL WASTE!  Our intent was for V to sleep there until we transitioned to the crib.  Turns out he liked sleeping in the Rock N Play far better.  We use the pnp more now as a play pen than we ever did for him to actually sleep in.

He did eventually nap in there occasionally, but he got too long for it so that didn't last long.

FWIW, I had a c/s and didn't have any trouble picking him up out of the rnp from a sitting position, which I kept right next to my bed.

  • We never used the music and vibration in the PnP.  I did however use the changing table attachment more than anything else.  I used it until E was too old to sit still for a changing.  I have a bad back so it made it easy.  Otherwise I think a basic PnP is totally fine.  (You can also get these used!) :)
  • I bought this PNP for my sister, I was actually babysitting my nephew the other day and love the changing station. I used a 20% off coupon from BRU so it was a little cheaper.

  • Thanks ladies!  Since I am 5 feet tall, I don't think I will have any issues with something being too low for me. As I mentioned in the jumperoo post, I am trying my best to keep things cheap (although that's hard) and necessary.  I believe my shower is going to be small.  My parents have graciously offered to buy us the crib, but my ILs are a whole other story.  I therefore believe we are going to be on the hook for a lot of big ticket necessary items.

Stupid question- I have heard people say they had their LOs sleep in the PNP from Day 1 as opposed to the crib.  Is this okay?  I also read things about SIDS and the Rock N Plays. This is all so new and overwhelming to me.

This exactly. Ours is currently in storage in the garage.
