Kitchen Aid mixer pour shield/accessories

I use my KA mixer all of the time.  I was thinking of asking for an additional mixing bowl, lids and a pour shield as ideas for Christmas.  Does anyone have a pour shield and do you think it works well or an inconvenience?

I do a lot of cake decorating and the powdered sugar is always messy.  Even though I have a system down of just a slow, steady pour.  The first turn of the mixer still "blows" the sugar.

Do you have any other accesories that I should consider?

Re: Kitchen Aid mixer pour shield/accessories

  • I have a pour shield and I really like it. It's really helpful when adding flour or powdered sugar to a recipe. I have a slicing attachment but I've never used it... :(

  • My KA mixer came with a pour shield, and to be honest, I never use it. I've tried it once or twice, but it didn't make much of a difference. A couple of years ago, my husband gifted me with the pasta extruder from Williams Sonoma. Initially, I loved it. I used it probably once a week. I really got into making pasta as a result, but the more I got into making pasta, the less I liked the attachment. There is no way to control the thickness, and the pasta was definitely on the thicker side. I've since since switched to a hand cranked Atlas pasta roller. i've played with the idea of getting a 2nd bowl. I use my mixer pretty often, and there are times where having a backup bowl would come in handy. I'm also eyeing up the ice cream attachment...I'm just worried that I'll get fat :) And the last attachment I'm thinking about is the juicer, but the reviews aren't very good. However, anything has to be better than hand squeezing a couple dozen lemons whenever I make lemonade in the summer.

  • I do a ton of baking and cake decorating. I have the shield and I think it's a pain for powdered sugar when making my icing. I do however like it when I'm making my chocolate cake because it's a very liquid recipe.
