best tablet for grade schoolers use?

My husband and I are thinking of getting a tablet for our daughter (she'll be 6 soon and is in kindergarten). This would be with the idea she can use it for educational games, etc. We thought about getting one of those made for kids (such as LeapPad)... but then were wondering if just getting a regular one would be a better idea. That way, it'll grow with her... and we could use it, too! What are your suggestions? We are not really "brand loyal" so any suggestions would be good. What do you like about it? Thanks!

Re: best tablet for grade schoolers use?

  • My sister bought her 3 year old a Kindle Fire recently, and I thought she was nuts. However, she is getting her money's worth!  My nephew uses it to play educational games, watch shows via Netflix, and my sister uses it from time-to-time for reading.  You can get some pretty rugged cases, too.

Personally, I'm an Apple person, so I would probably go with an iPad mini.  I love my iPad, and have the Kindle app.

You can find accessories for both Apple & Kindle on Amazon, which is a lit cheaper than buying directly through Apple.

  • I think the second rated brand will do, the less expensive since the child is just 6 year old.
  • Hi,

    1. Nabi 2

    2. Lexibook Junior Tablet

    3. Aakash Ubislate

These are the name of tablets which are specially made for kids to play games and have some educational features as well..

  • We originally bought each of our children a Leappad for Christmas.  Once we bought the pad, case, and recharger it was $150 (and that wasn't including ANY games).  We opted to return them and spend $200 on Nabi 2's.  I know $200 seems like a lot for a kid tablet, but we didn't think anything about spending so much on the Leappad's, and then we'd have to buy games and we didn't feel it would grow with them as well.  I liked the Nabi so much that I returned my new Samsung Galaxy Tab for a Nabi 2 for myself.
