Winter Crockpot Meal for a Crowd

I've got a group of friends coming over next weekend for a holiday gathering - probably 10 people total - and I'd like to make something warm and hearty in the crock pot. What are your suggestions? Bonus points if it's not too messy, since some people may end up sitting in the living room with their babies. Even more bonus points if you also suggest a side dish. Extra extra bonus points if you link to a recipe, haha. Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Winter Crockpot Meal for a Crowd

  • My go-to when I have a bunch of people coming over:

    Pot Roast w/ baby veggies:
1 roast (beef or pork, doesn't matter)
    small red/yellow potatoes
    baby carrots
    celery (cut into sticks)
    onion (cut into chunks)

Put everything in your slow cooker and add a ton of salt and pepper (and whatever else you'd like- sometimes I add a touch of garlic powder). Top with beef stock or broth. I usually use one or two cans, and then fill the rest of the crock pot with water. You can also add a little bit of worcestshire (am I spelling that right?? lol) if you want. Cook on low for up to 10 hours.

I usually make rice or mashed potatoes with this meal. Rice is easier, obviously, but the mashed potatoes really hit the spot. Add some bread rolls and you've got a super yummy meal. Smile

  • Chili! You can serve with cornbread and rice. i made this recipe for a halloween party and everyone lvoed it! http://allrecipes.com/recipe/slow-cooked-chili/detail.aspx

  • what other things are you serving? I have a crockpot recipe link in my blog several chicken, beef, and a pork option. side dish - do you have a small crockpot? I recently did mashed potatoes in the crockpot and they were delish! and to help yourself out buy some crockpot liners at the grocery store. I don't normally use them but if you've got a crowd its a huge help
