Um...

Sooo- SIL just posted a pic on FB of their Elf on a Shelf elf.

Her and BIL don't have kids.

Is this weird? Or are other couples without kids elf-ing it up, too?

  • Very weird...MIL got one last year for her and her H which I thought was super strange.

  • I think the entire thing is a little weird, honestly.  Maybe because we never had one, but my staff was talking about it yesterday.  Maybe it just reminds me of other famous dolls that "move" of their own accord, haha.

  • I vote wierd...but personally I think its wierd even if you have kids...kind of really creepy the idea of a doll supposidly watching you to see if you are being good. Kind of Chucky-ish.
  • Awesome- Thanks for the confirmation!

I agree that the whole concept is weird to me too, even for kids.

  • Weird!!

It's for kids to think that Santa has someone to watch them all the time lol

  • Strange very very strange.

I get the concept for kids and think it's sort of cute BUT for adults only... No thanks!

This! Just the look on its face creeps me out. But to each their own I suppose...

  • My aunt has one for her 2 young kids.He gets into things like decorating part of the tree so the kids come down excited to decorate the tree. The concept is cute if you make it cute...the creepy staring elf without kids...not so cute.

But, she took it up a level this year by buying a second one. Their elf, Spike, now has a girlfriend named Holly...SHE HAS TWO...

Also, her youngest child who is currently 5, had a real issue with Spike going away last year and cried every time he tried to "leave" so my aunt would have to "call" the north pole and Spike would come back. Spike finally was able to leave in September...and now he's back again.

     Hahaha

  • Super weird. Sounds like she is bored. I actually think the elf is a cute idea but I hate when people post pics on FB. It just seems like another way to try to prove to the world you are a "fun, creative mom." Ranks up there with people who post pics of their dinner, IMHO. (Sorry if I offend anyone). :)

Hahha just has to comment on the dinner comment. I have a dear friend who I love...but honestly, I am losing touch with her because I unsuscribed from her FB (and she lives 4 hours away) because I got sick of her posting/loading my newsfeed with every dinner and every starbucks drink and every meal she makes for her 2 year old on FB!
  • Weird. I was under the impression it was to keep your kids in line around Christmas...

TN isn't letting me post pics, so you'll just have to copy+paste this link..... But this is the only acceptable elf on the shelf IMO:
