Los Angeles Jews voted overwhelmingly against a California constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages and for Barack Obama, according to an exit poll.
On Proposition 8, Jewish Angelinos voted 78 percent against the ban while only 8 percent supported the ban, according to the survey of 1,200 voters in 50 precincts. The remainder declined to respond. The Jews? vote against the ban was the highest proportion of any ethnic or religious group.

Los Angeles Jewish voters gave Obama 78 percent to 20 percent for Republican John McCain. The president-elect?s Jewish numbers in Los Angeles matched the percentage nationwide.
Among all Los Angeles voters, 72 percent voted for Obama and 24 percent for McCain.
The survey of voters, who filled out a self-administered survey, had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.05 percent. It was conducted by the Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University.
Re: Prop 8 and the Jewish vote
In 2008, it was estimated that there are 668,000 Jews in Los Angeles and about 9.5 million people live in L.A.
