Take a look at my make-up/skin care routine... acne help needed!

I have been having HORRIBLE break outs around my hair line, chin, and jaw. Some are typical pimples but I'm also getting a few large cysitc acne near sides of my chin (ouch!)

I use the clarisonic mia (clean it properly), proactive (PM only) (just got back on it 4 wks ago), peter thomas roth glycolic wash (AM only). I also use PTR retinol lotion in the morning.

Make-up- oil free, non-comdegenic (sp?) Smashbox 14hr wear foundation, Murad primer, Makeup Forever matte powder (white kind)... I was using smashbox photo finishing primer but felt like it broke me out... I use make-up brushes and wash them weekly as well as the clarisonic mia head.

I do "pick" a bit at my face but only if there is a white head... I know that is bad...

 HELP! This is beyond ridiculous!

  • I also struggle with acne. I tried so many products. What finally worked was a trip to a dermatologist. I've been using retin a and an oral antibiotic and I'm finally seeing results. I just started breaking out a bit but traced it back to a new shampoo.  Good luck!

  • I would suggest a derm. If you are using the wrong products or ones that are too harsh you could be causing the breakouts or at least adding to them. I has a prescription in my early twenties and then didn't need it anymore but kept using the acne type washes. Turns out my skin changed and I was making things worse. Once I went to more gentle products the cysts and redness cleared up.

In the meantime I would not use a glycolic and saylic acid wash together, even spaced out. Maybe use proactive 2-3 times a week as a scrub or use the system as you regular and the mia as the scrub.
