Photog friends

So I have a little dilema...we had a friend take our Christmas pics. She is starting up her business and I generally like the stuff she posts on her web page. That being said, when I recieved the CD (we did a mini session with 10-15 best images- she picked) I was less than thrilled. Don't get me wrong, I like the pictures I just don't like the editing.

SO my question is, how do I fix it?? The pics are to "cool" in color for my taste. My hair and D's hair look a little blue in some shots and baby girl's face is too washed out in some. I don't want to say anything to her because I don't want to hurt her feelings. I have the rights to the images, so I just need to know how to fix them so I can make our Christmas card. TIA!

No....click me!!!! Cause I'm the wedding bio! Bloggin it up! Prince Charming stole my heart and we rode off on his white horse... Re: Photog friends

  • The release you have is probably a print release, which means you can print them freely but not that you can edit them or alter them freely. This is a common misconception, changing the image at all violates the copyright she has on them. I'm sorry you don't like them :( I think your two options are either just ask her to change them or to ask specifically for a copyright release. Hope this helps :)
  • I would ask her for the unedited images.  When you get those, maybe you can tell her that you like them better and you just need XYZ touched up (a blemish, for example).  I hate overly edited photos.  I wouldn't be afraid to say something though...it will really help her get better.

  • I would just tell her that the edit is too cool and for her to warm the images up. If she shoots in RAW, this is an extremely easy fix. It's likely that she just got a little carried away in the post-processing. You have every right to ask her to reedit the original to suit your needs, but like BL said, she owns the images so I would advise again editing them yourself.

Especially if she is just starting out, she should welcome your feedback. Photography is such an individual process. If it were me, I would rather you get the product you love (and be that much more likely to recommend my services) than for you to spare my feelings and be left with images you don't love.
