TX BBQ

Im planning a TX BBQ party. Do you have any suggestions? Adults and children will be in attendance.

Re: TX BBQ

  • What do you mean when you say Texas BBQ?  Do you mean you're having a western-themed cookout with hamburgers and hot dogs?  Or do you mean you're having beef cooked low and slow and topped with some variety of tomato or molasses sauce?  A true Texan will never call pulled pork barbeque - I'm in school with a million of them and they're always nattering on about their precious beef ;)

I think potato salad, deviled eggs, beans, and slaw are a necessity either way.  Texas sheet cake would be good for dessert.  Make sure you have wet naps.  If you're having a Texas party, you'll get major points if you can get a hold of Shiner Bock beer.

I think checked tablecloths and mason jars with wildflowers would be cute for decor.  See if you can find inexpensive cowboy hats at the dollar store.

  • As my Texas husband tells me, Texas BQ is rubs not sauce. To go with the BBQ (which is beef in Texas) you have white bread, pickles and onions. Not sure why but every BBQ place here has that.

What kid of suggestions are you seeking? Decorating? Menu? Entertainment? (Country music no doubt). Games? (washer toss)
