AW: c25k

I just wanted to AW myself for a second... today was my first straight-run (no walking breaks) in the C25K program... i didn't think i was going to be able to go straight through but i did it! it was a 20 minute run (day 3 of week 5)... i did stop for about 45seconds halfway through to stretch, but other than that i ran straight through!

For those of you just starting out on the program, i just wanted to let you know that you can do it! you will be amazed at how quickly your body adjusts to running....

Re: AW: c25k

  • That's fabulous! Congratulations- you should be proud!
  • That is so awesome! And good to hear! I will be starting week 4 this upcoming week. So far so good! I did notice that my knee is a bit sore after finishing week 3, but hopefully I just need to stretch it out. Anyway, keep us posted on your progress and happy running to you! I was excited about being able to run for 3 straight minutes, so I can only imagine how thrilled you were to do 20 minutes non-stop!
  • That's awesome! Congratulations!

I tried that program last month, but I really disliked the shock I felt in my knees and ankles. I decided to stick with my eliptical. :)

  • there is a band you can buy at the drugstore (by the ace bandages) that wraps around your knee and helps absorb some of the shock... i used to have to use it all the time when i worked out but haven't had to use it yet- probably when i get up to more mileage i will need it.... you may also want to try running on a track instead of on a sidewalk --- concrete is the worst material to run on b/c it is the least shock-absorbent (unfortunately i dont have access to a track so i do run on the sidewalk)...

  • I've never heard of that wrap - I may have to check it out. Although I was running on a treadmill, so the shock shouldn't have been nearly as bad as street running. Maybe my joints are just sensitive. lol

  • Thanks for posting. That's awesome, and just the encouragement I needed. Tommorrow I start week 4, and I'm getting a little more apprehensive about each new week's routine because they keep getting harder. But it will be sooo exciting when I can do the 20 minute one, so I'm looking forward to continuing with the program.

Oh, and re: the impact, I'm sure everyone's body responds differently, but I found that my knees and ankes were really sore and stiff the first couple of weeks, but now they seem to be getting used to it. So, I don't know, maybe in some cases it gets better as you go.

  • Congrats!!  I understand the feeling.  I'm a recent c25k grad :)
