one more about gift giving - how many gifts pp?

I just got my sister a present from us and from E but I also realize she has to give us 3 presents - one for me, DH and DD - should I get her 3 things?

What about for my parents - they get DH and I each gifts - at least 2-3 each, plus gifts for DD.  I'm not so worried about DD, because whatever, they are her grandparents and I knwo they will go nuts.  But I normally give each of my parents 1 gift from "us" and one from DD.

  • I don't count the number of gifts. For some people I will give them 3 or 4, some only 2 but it's more about the budget I have for each person. I don't think it needs to be an even count (or even an even budget) for everyone.

At this point, DS doesn't give anyone gifts that are just from him. We'll start that at some point, but not yet.

Ditto, I just have a budget so it may be that I buy someone one more expensive gift, and someone else several less expensive gifts.  For my sister I did think about the fact that she has to buy for both me and H, so I upped our budget for her to reflect that.

  • I usually just set a $ amount and stick to that (it's different with the girls or it will be different with the girls when C's older).

  • I would just base it on the cost of the gift. If you were buying for kids, then I would make sure you have the same amount of gifts so there's no jealousy but I highly doubt an adult would care.

For my SIL who is married with one kid, we stopped exchanging presents with them a few years ago. We just get her child gifts and then she'll get us gifts for our dog so it evens out. It was stupid when we'd exchange gifts with them b/c we'd set a price limit and then we'd basically just be giving each other a gift card to a restaurant for the same amount.

  • We also set a strict budget this year, so it's not the number of gifts.  From DS and now DD I have done handprint ornaments for the grandparents, aunts and uncles and that is the only gift that is specifcally from them.

  • We have a certain amt for each person and I buy gifts til I'm close to the limit.
