In my short 2 years of being an HR professional, I have had to deal with a wide variety of things. I've been the bear of good news as well the the bear of bad news. It always excites me when someone is oh so happy when you offer them a position. Then on the other hand, it always hurts when you have to tell someone bad news. I've had to terminate employment before, which is definitely not fun. But today tops it all. Today was a first. As soon as i got in today, I got word that one of the supervisors in the warehouse passed away unexpectedly last night. 2 days before his birthday. With my boss in Seattle at the Corporate office, I have been the only HR person here today. I've been walking around the warehouse to see how everyone is doing, especially the department he supervisor, and just being there if anyone needs anything. It's pretty somber here today. Everyone is just super quiet and keeping to themselves. I've hard hardly any e-mails from supervisors today. Days like this making being in the HR profession extremely hard. My boss had to call his wife. Talk about an extremely hard phone call to make :-(
Re: Today was hard
Oh my gosh, that is so sad. And right before Christmas. It's good that you are there for them.
Actually, my friend just called me.. her sister passed away unexpectedly last night too.
I can't imagine how those families are feeling right now. T&Ps to all of them.
