Hi Military Nesties. I am just popping over from the other boards to ask a quick question. Thank you for your service to our country! Merry Christmas!
My cousin is in the process of joining the Marines. He is a smart guy and has done well on all the testing. But, he posts the dumbest stuff including curse words on his Facebook page.
I know many employers monitor their employees' Facebooks. Does the military do this too? Would they check his Facebook page as information to gather as to accept him (or not) and for his job placement if he is accepted?
It's mostly curse words and some dumb pics with his buddies goofing around.
Re: Marines and Social Media
No, they don't monitor for things like that. If they did, none of us would be in. Plus, foul language is kind of part of our "culture", example : "She cusses like a sailor."
He will have people watching for what we call OPSEC violations once he is in service. That is Operational Security. That is troop movements, locations and things like that. It is also a good idea to be aware of PERSEC, no matter if you are military or a civilian. That is personal security. FB should only be open to your friends and family and locked down otherwise.
