Running in the cold

I am a WIMP about running in the cold.  I think my main problem is I do not have the right clothing for it.  I am looking for recs.  I usually buy Lulu clothing but I am will get whatever works!  I am in MA so temps nowadays in the mornings can be in the 20 - 30s.

Re: Running in the cold

  • Oh man! 20's & 30's is a heatwave! Stick out tongue Lol I understand though, everyone's definition of cold is different! Big Smile The right clothing can really make a difference though!

Here's what I wear depending on the temps. I live in WI so "cold" can be anywhere from low 30's to -0+. Obviously the temps I run in totally depends on my mood!

Warmer version of cold I wear:
These tights w/my regular running shorts over. This shirt w/This top over

Depending on the temp I might switch out the Nike top for an UnderArmour fleecy sweatshirt-like top I have.

I'll wear either this headband or this hat & these gloves

If its Super dooper cold, I'll wear the REI running tights under a pair of windpants...or I might just skip the running tights & wear my UnderArmour cold gear tights (UA Base, I have the 2.0 & the 3.0 which are for different temp ranges). I don't typically wear an actual jacket. I'll just layer stuff that I can easily take off & tie around my waist in case I get hot.

Everything has reflectives on them b/c Im usually running in the dark. I also have these which I highly recommend to anyone running or walking in the dark! They are magnetic so they will attach to the hem of your shirt or shorts! I even loop one through my dogs collar

HTH! GL & stay warm! Big Smile

  • In 20s and 30s, I typically run in wicking pants, sports bra, wicking tank top, wicking long sleeved shirt (sometimes fleece lined) and a fleece vest. I also usually have stretchy mittens and an ear band on my head. The fleece vest zips up to my chin so my neck is protected during wind.
