House warming party close to baby shower

My fiance and I are expecting our first child in July and planning to buy a house in the next few months before the baby arrives. Since it'll be our first home and we're just starting out I'd like to have a house warming party. I'm hoping to be moved into a house by May the latest. I'm due in the beginning of July so I'm thinking the baby shower will be in June. Is it too much to have a house warming party a few months after the shower? I don't want to overwhelm guests or have them feel burdened to get us gifts just a few months apart. It also might take us awhile to get settled in after moving especially with the arrival of the baby; how long after you move in is it acceptable to have a housewarming party?

Re: House warming party close to baby shower

  • Welcome :)

A housewarming isn't typically a gift giving occasion.  You might get a bottle of wine, a GC to Lowe's, or a houseplant, but it's not like people are going to be spending much.  The vast majority of people are unlikely to get you anything at all, especially if you're getting married and will get all those house gifts then.

I think 90 days after moving is the max shelf life of the word "housewarming," though you can certainly throw a party any time and invite people to have a look around.  But I highly doubt that you'll want to have a housewarming after the baby arrives; I'd aim for one beforehand.

  • I agree that a housewarming isn't that much of a gift giving occasion. If you're having a housewarming party you're probably more having a party with the reason being to introduce everyone to your new digs! You will get some little trinkets but wouldn't be at all the same as you would for a baby shower. Additionally, you probably won't be inviting the same exact guest list to your housewarming as you would for a baby shower. In the end I think it's fine to have both but don't mix the two.

  • I agree with everything that everyone else has mentioned.

No need to worry about having a houewarming party so close to your baby shower.  Not all of the guests will be duplicates, and housewarming gifts tend to be small (if any!).

Your bridal shower is when you'll get the housewares you need for the new digs.
