Canine Conjunctivitis/Pink Eye

I think our dog has pink eye, based on quick google search. She has some white discharge coming out of one eye, and the inner eyelid and white of her eye are dark pink. Mainly I am wondering if anyone else has dealt with this, how long it lasts? The article on pet webmd said to rinse her eye with sterile saline so we started that tonight, and I am don't plan on taking her to the vet unless it gets worse as it seems to be a mild case. Any advice is appreciated...

If it makes any difference she is a five year old mutt mostly yellow lab and German Shepard, I think she picked it up at the kennel since we had to board her over the holidays.

Re: Canine Conjunctivitis/Pink Eye

  • is she squinting that eye? any signs of tearing? is she rubbing her eye? it you have anyone of those symptoms please take her to a vet ASAP. Eyes are not something to fool around with. If not, you may be ok waiting. A vet can prescribe am ointment that will help it heal quicker and soothe the eye.

  • She doesn't seem bothered by it at all no squinting (not even in the bright sun), no rubbing, just small amount of white mucous that I wipe out every few hours, we are rinsing it with saline. If it gets any worse I plan to take her in, but at this point I am more bothered by it then she seems to be. I usually err on the side of taking her in but my neighbor who works at the shelter told me today that it seems so mild that it should clear up in a day or two. If it doesn't we will get the ointment.
