I'm so bored....let's discuss anything
Anyone have any good recipes they have tried lately and want to share?
Anything bugging you?
Anyone attempting any drastic New Years resolutions?
Re: I'm so bored....let's discuss anything
I have made crock pot curried carrot soup.
2lbs of carrots, sliced into 1/2" pieces
3.5 cups of veggies broth
1 small onion
2 cloves of garlic
2 tsp curry powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
pepper to taste
1 cup cream (or light canned coconut milk - I had cream on hand)
Put first 6 ingredients into the crockpot. Cook on high. (In my large crockpot, everything was done in about 2.5 hours, but I think you could probably cook this on low for longer.) Soup is done when carrots are soft. Puree soup in batches using food processor or immersion blender. Once it is all pureed, add the cream/milk and serve.
Nothing is bugging me now.
Nothing drastic in terms of resolutions - I'm just trying to get back to my pre-pregnancy healthy eating habits.
I will answer my own questions.
I made this two nights ago. Not exactly healthy (its pretty cheesy) but easy to make and good comfort food.

Bugging me.....I'm a bit annoyed at all the quick-fix weight loss stuff I see being talked about. You'd think people would have learned by now there is no quick fix!
Resolutions.....I'm not really the resolution type but I am kind of making it a general goal to do away with more processed foods. we're doing reasonably well but its definitely hard not to take any shortcuts with both of us working full time and such limited time in the evening when we get home. Sometimes I would just like to be able to pop some frozen meatballs out of the freezer without having to worry about a whole bunch of gross ingredients in them!
I'm annoyed I keep trying to update my sig and it's not working.
I haven't really made anything new recently. We made so much food for Christmas events and ended up with so many leftovers we didn't eat. The crows love us though.
Well I haven't exercised at all and I pinched something in my neck and back so that resolution isn't looking good this week.
I just mailed off our adoption fee for our new dog we were fostering so he'll officially be ours!
One great thing about our new dog is that since he is usually always laying on me, I can't really goof around on the computer at home so instead I read.
I hate to get political because its not that type of board, but I'm annoyed by people either being completely unaware of the expiration of the payroll tax cuts or complaining about it when they realize.
I could go further, but I do not want to offend people it's just frustrating to me.
I don't really have a recipe but I got truffle oil in my stocking and made a creamy mushroom pasta with truffle oil last week. It was divineeee.

Cooking with Crouton: A Food Blog
I tried cooking steak for the first time lately. And you know what? It was pretty good! I posted in my blog about it if you want to try the recipe.
http://myredwheelbarrow.blogspot.com/2012/12/culinary-adventure-reddit-steak-veg.html
It wasn't too tough, either. I'm afraid of cooking most of the time.
I will admit I got angry when I saw my pay for tomorrow. I'm not complaining because we got that break for a couple years and now it's back to the way it was, but I can still be upset, can't I? I think so, lol.
I made PW's Carbonara the other night that I really liked. Extremely unhealthy (1 lb of bacon!) but it was good.
Fex Ex delivered a full-sized Kuerig to our house today and we have no idea who it's from! Honestly, I never wanted one because I don't want to buy those k-cups and am perfectly content brewing our coffee the regular way.
This is mainly for you Remy, but DD fell asleep next to me last night without nursing for the first time and she only got up once to nurse during the night. I was a little sad about the before bed thing.
I really need to get my butt in gear about cleaning my house. It's not terrible or anything but it definitely needs some TLC.
oh mrs. remy that chicken rice bake looks great! i just pinned it and plan on making it next week.
I made this recipe for new years day dinner with my family (second time i have made it): http://www.preventionrd.com/2011/09/crispy-potato-roast/ and its great, but i JUST now realized i have been been making it wrong. I have been laying the potatoes down flat, with the onions (sub for the shallots) layered in between...i wondered why i had been having to use a much bigger dish than the recipe said. Now Im anxious to try it the right way and see if its any better
bugging me: my partner at work got fired this morning, so now I have to take over all her projects. She got fired because she is a f-up...so basically Im stuck putting out all her fires and fixing all her mistakes. lovely. Cant complain though, I didnt like her anyway
no "drastic" resolutions, just a lot of work to do before baby comes and desperately trying to get the credit card debt under control a little more.
OB appt later today, they told me I will not be having an ultasound at this appt. What should i expect?? urine, vitals and a pelvic exam?
dyyyyyying to find out the sex though, should be able to at the next appt i think?
I don't mind, I really wish we would discuss politics more here. Everyone is afraid to possibly offend someone I think, because a lot of us know each other IRL but this place needs to liven up sometimes!!
Awww I know how you feel. DH keeps asking me when I am going to stop nursing B before bed so he can help put him to sleep but its such a nice little routine I really don't want to! I am glad if this means you will be sleeping better though!
Anyone have any good recipes they have tried lately and want to share? We've made BBQ meatballs 2 times within the past 2 weeks for the holidays and both times we've gotten compliments.
Take 1 lb of ground pork and 1 lb of ground beef; 2 eggs, S&P to take and about 1 cup of italian breadcrumbs. Form meatballs and fry (yes, pan fry) on each side for about 3-4 minutes. Forms a really good crust. It doesn't matter if they're fully cooked because then then go in to the crockpot (after I lay them on a papertowel to drain the grease).
Make homemade BBQ sauce. It's always better. I generally just put the kitchen sink in there but use the Neely's recipe on foodnetwork.com as a good base. I leave the water out though because it makes it too thin. And I leave the white sugar in and use either dark or light brown sugar...whatever I have. I also throw in 2-3 tbsp of cayanne pepper for kick.
Add BBQ sauce in crockpot on top of meatballs. Add 1 cup of grape jelly. Helps cut heat but gives a spicy/cool taste. Keep in crockpot on low for about 3 hours. Meatballs will continue to cook and sauce will thicken.
It's nothing new...but I feel like when you make both the meatballs and BBQ sauce from scratch, it is so yummy!
Anything bugging you? My coworker and I have been dealing with getting a back pay issue situated since March of 2012. It's getting to the point where we may have to get a laywer involved and it's annoying. Don't want to have to go that route. Just want what is rightfully due to us.
Anyone attempting any drastic New Years resolutions? Running a 5K by July. Haven't picked one...but I'm training with a few girls to do one.
Sorry this won't be clicky!
I made this last week with extra extra garlic and added mushrooms. It was amazing, especially the next day. http://m.allrecipes.com/recipe/24082/recipeeasy-vodka-sauce
I made this for Christmas: Sriacha Mac and Cheese
8 oz. elbow macaroni
Butter
1 small onion, diced
2 garlic cloves., diced
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
1 cup cream
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 cup Sriracha ( I use almost a full cup!)
2 cups shredded Cheddar Jack
salt and pepper
1/2 cup Panko breadcrumbs
Cook pasta, set aside.
Saut? garlic and onion in butter until tender.
Whisk in flour, then milk, then cream.
Mix in nutmeg and mustard.
Remove from heat and mix in Sriracha and cheese.
Add pasta and mix well. Salt/pepper to taste.
Pour in a greased casserole dish and top with breadcrumbs. Bake for 15mins at 400 degrees. Broil for the last few minutes to get the breadcrumbs crunchy.
Vents: Money is "tight" for my sister's family yet they both got new cars in the past few weeks. Just because they wanted them, not because there was anything wring with their current vehicles. My sister also gets an allowance from my parents. Must be nice!!
I hate Resolutioners at the gym. It's so crowded and it makes me not want to go.
Drastic resolution: I've decided to go vegan with the exception of a protein shake for breakfast and after my workouts (agreement I reached with DH). I'm a cheese fanatic so it's going to be hard but it's something I need to do.
No recipes. With the holidays we've just been scrambling to throw things together and eating a lot of leftovers. If I have macaroni and cheese or spinach dip one more time, I'm gonna have a problem. On the other hand, I'm distraught that we're finally out of banana pudding.
Bugging me: my son's sleep regression, FB friends who are "joking" that Obama should be assassinated, and those who complain about resolution folks at the gym (this isn't aimed at Meghann - I had it in my mind before I read her post!). ETA - Oh, and my dishwasher suddenly stopped working. It ran fine on Tuesday night but wouldn't run yesterday. I'm spoiled and HATE washing dishes by hand!
I don't really consider myself making resolutions as just looking at the new year as a reason to reevaluate my life, how I've been living it, and what changes I may like to make. Nothing earth-shattering
no recipes. We've been eating leftovers for 2 weeks. I like them - but yowza - too much green bean casserole. I wanted to cook tonight, but DH pointed out we have steak and potatoes leftover from NYE dinner. I'm really not a fan of leftover steak.
On the plus side though - DD did eat oyster stew for dinner last night.
Can I AW a little - We moved into our new offices and while my neighbors are loud and inconsiderate, I have a new office/new building/new furniture for the first time in my life and its more exciting than I anticipated and makes up for the obnoxious neighbors.
I really need to get back on the bandwagon of making new dishes. Maybe this weekend if I find time.
Nothing is really bugging me this week. Other than trying to figure out what dress Caroline will wear for her pictures in March. I obviously have a little bit of time, but I like to get all these things taken care of. Before I know it February will be here.
I'm going to try and eat healthy, and work out, but at night after I get the kids in bed, I'm finding I would rather sleep then work out in the basement. DH and I are also decluttering the house, which we did some over the weekend. We have 5 bags for the Purple Heart tomorrow. I also really like to consign most of the baby clothes and big ticket items.
I think everyone can be bummed because it always sucks to have money taken out of a paycheck! I really more referring to the people who are attacking the president for "lying about not raising taxes on the middle class" because they think this tax expiration and the fiscal cliff were related.

Anyone have any good recipes they have tried lately and want to share? Cooking Light's Chiles Rellenos are AMAZING. The recipe can be altered (no need to separate the eggs, works the same). So so good.
Anything bugging you? Situation with MIL. She's been on medical leave for some time and she's complaining about not having any money. She knew for years she was sick and knew it could get worse anytime, but she still spent all her money on crap she doesn't need. She has no savings, no real retirement, it's just really scary.
Anyone attempting any drastic New Years resolutions? Not really a resolution, but we're hoping to sell and buy a home before this baby is due in July.Anyone have any good recipes they have tried lately and want to share? No. SIL and I are planning to attempt PW's cinnamon rolls on Saturday. I hope it goes well!
Anything bugging you? Today is forever long and I don't feel well. We have been in a holiday funk for the past 2 weeks and haven't cooked dinner at home in that long. We need to get back to it.
Anyone attempting any drastic New Years resolutions? No. I will attempt the usual of getting my house in order.BFP#1: 01/10, M/C 6w -- BFP#2: 06/10, M/C 5w -- BFP#3: 09/10, DS born June 1, 2011

I think we heard the heartbeat at the 11-12 week appointment. Other than that, I think you are on the right track of what to expect.
However, it will most likely be too early to find out what you are having at your next appointment. I'm scheduled for my anatomy scan next Friday at 19 weeks.
Whoa-you are almost halfway there already! I feel like you just made your announcement I hope you are feeling good!
Anyone have any good recipes they have tried lately and want to share? We are still finishing up leftovers from the huge family celebration we had on Saturday. I can't wait to get back to normal with the grocery store and regular meals.
Anything bugging you? Nothing major, but I think I could use a break from my FB feed. I seriously think people are under the impression that a FB update must include a complaint or 'woe is me' type of comment. Once in a while is fine. All the time gets old really quick. (haha, as I write this complaint down!)
Anyone attempting any drastic New Years resolutions? Nope. Every year I set goals that are realistic and achievable. The main goal this year is to get the nursery ready, which involves me sorting through junk and tossing/donating/etc whatever I don't need. I'd also like to finish up a few scrapbooks before the baby arrives.you were right jadey... heartbeat (which took a long time to find, made me suuuper nervous!!) and vitals.
and you were right about the timing of the gender too! Next appt is Jane 30th, which they said is too soon. They said the one after that more than likely.
Good thing you are hear to keep me on track! You will be my pace car through this pregnancy!!
Ha, I have no clue what to expect with these appointments and pregnancy! I'm relying on my momma friends for their wisdom! :-)
