Re: Friday Chit Chat
I am currently mentally preparing myself for Disney on Ice tonight, im going with my husband, my sister, brother in law, nephew, cousin, his gf and her daughter...should be fun, right?
Tomorrow H and I have our medical appt to complete our application for life insurance and then i have a sprinkle in the afternoon for a close friend.
Sunday, hopefully absolutely nothing=)
This has been a short week from h3ll! TGIF!!!
I have nothing planned this weekend. NOTHING! I have some things around the house I wanna do. But if I lay on the couch reading the whole weekend, I'd be ok with that too!
I think that Disney on Ice sounds fun!! I went went I was a kids and loved it. Where are you going to see it?
We are going to SIL's tonight to hang out with them. I am getting sick again so I don't feel extremely social. My throat is killing me. As long as I don't get sick like I was before Christmas, I think that I can deal with this. We don't have any plans for tomorrow. We should start taking the Christmas tree down though. Then Sunday we will probably go over to DH's uncle's for the Seahawks game.
Finish the (insert bad word here) thank you notes! I have all of the ones written for my side, but DH hasn't even started the ones on his side (he promised he'd help)! They NEED to get done! I'm usually the etiquette police, but I've been so busy trying to finish up this Ph.D. that I honestly haven't had time to get them out and it's driving me crazy!!!
The rest of the weekend will probably be spent taking down Christmas decorations and cleaning up.
I also have to go into work for a few hours on Sunday to get an experiment started for next week.
@mpif - Luckily, DH and I bought whole life insurance almost 2 years ago. Since we were young (26 at the time), no medical exams were required. I remember sweating in the insurance office because I thought I was going to have to have blood work done, and I'm terrified of needles! It was the biggest relief ever when they told us that we were automatically approved without the exam because of our age and overall good health!
The IZOD center, im excited to go im just feeling under the weather a little and if i have to get off the couch its not my first option!
hmm thats interesting, we are getting whole life insurance as well, I am 30 and DH is 28 and we are both healthy, maybe its just the agency we are going with, atleast they come to us at our house!
OMG!!! Nicole just reminded me that we need to send out a few more TY notes. We got wedding gifts over Christmas that we need to send TY's for. Plus DH needs to write out one for his grandfather.
I'm still getting gifts also. I have to get out 2 more thank you notes. Hopefully that will be the end of them, but it seems like every time I say I'm done with them, a new gift appears!
I feel bad that I am complaining about TY's when we only had about 10 to send out. I still have to do one for my parents. I am having a really hard time being sincere about their card with everything that the father has put me through in the last 2 years. I wrote one, but it is the typical "Thank you for your generous gift. We really appreciate it." It was really bad, so I threw it out...
We have about 130 thank you notes!
I got the 60 or so from my bridal shower done within 2 weeks, but it feels like the wedding ones are taking forever (even taking into account there's about double what I had for the shower)!
I also refuse to do what DH's cousin did with her wedding thank you note. We got a Christmas card style picture of them that said thank you. No handwritten note at all. Beyond TACKY!
For our life insurance we have a whole life policy from Nothwestern Mutual. I think they had just changed their health exam policy the week before we got it to be much more lenient. We had to answer a few health questions (height, weight, do you have any chronic diseases, etc) and take an oral swab HIV test, but that's it : )
I haven't even started our TY's but there's only about 20 or so total (I guess that's one advantage to not getting many gifts).
Other then maybe working on those, I am not planning on doing much of anything this weekend. I am exhausted and just want to sleep, sleep, sleep! H has been sick for the last couple of days, but I am hoping he feels good enough to go to the gym at least once this weekend with me.
I'm relaxing for one more weekend before returning to work
I'm so not ready for break to be over!
The only actual plans are going to the in-laws to eat some pizza and watch the last two episodes of Dexter, so I'm looking forward to that!
It was really hard for me to try to keep each one personal. I started to feel like the all sounded insincere, because they all started to sound the same in the end.
I'm going to be the Debbie Downer, sorry.
Tomorrow I have to go to a co-worker's funeral. He died on New Year's Eve and we found out at work about 5 minutes before we had to pick up our students on Wednesday. My principal got the news and immediately told the staff. She arranged coverage for all teachers for about a half an hour in order to give us time to absorb the news. It was quite the shock and we don't really know how to react. I am sure his family is devastated and I am actually afraid to go tomorrow.
My amazing H, as I was texting a former co-worker to see if she would go with me to the funeral, asked if I wanted him to go. He had no idea I was texting my friend about it. My friend and I will go together. I don't want to put H through that, especially given the circumstances and since it is someone he never met.
Rather than that, I am doing nothing but stay home. I guess because of what happened, this was the longest 3 days I think I have ever worked. I just want to be curled up with my H in bed the entire weekend.
SJS-
I am sorry for your loss it must have been a big shock to you and your school community. I hope that you all come together to give each other support in this difficult time.
Thanks Kimm! It was a huge shock to us all. He was a related service provider, so as far as I know, they have only told students that he serviced. I don't know what they'll do about the rest of the population.
There was a large turnout at the funeral, which was nice for the family. I saw many people from around the school district and almost all of the teachers from school came.
