Doggie problems :(

I have a Jack Russel/Huskie mixed male dog.

I'm at my wits end of keeping myself from getting mad at him.

He poops in the house, always in the same area but I could let him out to go do his business (and he'll do #1 & #2) and then I'll leave and when I come back there'll be poop. Even when we're sleeping he does it. He knows dang well he's not supposed to do it (he hides behind the couch). Now he's been peeing. We have two cats and my one older cat used to do it around the house but hasn't done it since we changed his brand of cat litter and my youngest one has never gone outside the litter box. And these spots are way to big to be a cat (my oldest cat would've had to pee out my youngest cat in order to make a spot that big). Now there's a good 4 or 5 pee stains in the area also. I don't know if he's getting back at me for leaving him at home or what's his problem but we'll be moving here soon and I CANNOT have him doing this at the new place. We've even considered locking him in the laundry room (at the new place) when we leave. But I don't want to lock him up without trying to figure out what his problem might be and if I can get this resolved before we move, I'd be one happy woman!

Re: Doggie problems :(

  • What are you using to clean up the poop? Are you using an enzymatic cleaner, like nature's miracle?

Have you taken him to a vet to rule out a medical condition?

They see us rollin'...they be hatin'.
  • How old is your dog?

Have you considered crate training your dog?  We have our husky crate trained because we just don't trust him out by himself or when we are sleeping to not do his business in the house (or destroy anything for that matter).  He won't do anything while we are home and are watching him.  Anytime we are unable to watch him (i.e. we're at work or when we're sleeping), he is in his crate.  He does not go at all while in there.  Dogs do not like to do their business where they sleep.  Crate training can take some time but if you stick with it, it is well worth it and your dog will even learn to love his crate and goes in there to feel safe.

Also, what are you using to clean up your dogs accidents?  He is probably going in the same spot because you are not cleaning it well enough.  The scent of his urine or feces is still there so he'll keep going there.  You need to use something that is specifically made to clean up pet messes.  A regular carpet cleaner or something is not going to do the trick.  You can find pet mess cleaners at a pet store.

This is the brand we use.

  • Our dog is about 2 years old. He was just a pup when my FI and I got together. He was so good before. He was crated and he hated it. I've used quite a few different things to clean it up but he still keeps going. I know we have neighbors who let their dog go in our yard so maybe that's part of his problem? No we haven't taken him to the vet yet but I'm thinking about taking him in here soon if I can't get this to stop.
  • Take him to a vet and rule out possible organic issues.

You can also restrict access to the room where he's been pooping and peeing. Invest in a baby gate or a dog gate.

Crating him will also work wonders.
