Wedding band rash

Hey ladies! First time posting on this board so forgive me if this has been hashed out before....

I keep getting a rash under my wedding band. Little bubbles that itch like crazy. Than it turns into an angry red dry rash. I thought initially it was because my ring would need a cleaning. Then I thought it was because of water being trapped under the ring. I try really hard to keep it dry under there but I keep getting a rash. It's not a gold allergy, I have other bands that I don't get a reaction with.

The only other thing I can think of is that under the diamonds, the gold isn't an underlay. (I can't explain it well) Maybe that has something to do with it....

Any help would be appreciated. I can't stand how itchy my finger gets!!

Re: Wedding band rash

  • I get that whenever my white gold ring needs to be rhodium plated.  I turn white gold yellow pretty quickly...

  • Is it white gold?  There's actually no such thing as white gold - only yellow gold mixed with white metals to make it look less yellow, then coated with rhodium to look completely white.  You could be allergic to any of the lesser metals in the band or the rhodium plating.

The pricey fix is a new yellow gold or platinum band.  The cheap fix worth a try is coating the band with clear nail polish.  Might not work, but doesn't cost anything.

  • Could also be soap caught under the setting.
  • the part under the diamonds may be what's causing it...or the soap!

do you find you get the rash at certain times of day (like sleeping or when you get warm)?  my finger gets itchy under my ring when my hands get too warm.

maybe take your rings off when washing your hands to see if it;s the soap first.

  • I got this about 2 years ago under my platinum wedding band and engagement bands.  I think that it was the water and soap getting under the bands and rubbing against the skin.  Then I started taking off my bands at night while I slept and I haven't had it since.
