Ptsd dogs?

I was wondering if any of you know anything about getting a dog for someone with ptsd. I've been an emotional mess since my dog passed unexpected last month and have since realized how much he helped my ptsd. I having a hard time finding any organizations in canada that have access to a dog like this. Just wondering if any of you have any experience in this area? Tyia!

Re: Ptsd dogs?

  • I am so sorry about the passing of your pup last month.

Honestly, there are service dog organizations, but many other dogs will probably help by just being there and by being dogs (in your face fuzz therapy). Have you looked for a new rescue dog or another pup?

  • I am sorry that your dog passed away last month. I had a dog pass away unexpectedly in May and it is TOUGH.

You can always try a foster to adopt situation to see if the pup helps your ptsd.

  • You might want to stop in and talk to a representative at your local Veterans Administration. They might be able to help locate a ptsd dog and help with the training.

  • Do you need a dog that is already therapy trained? Because just fostering or adopting might help you. If there are physical manifestations of your PTSD, then I would suggest sticking with a therapy dog, but otherwise, just having a new companion may help with your emotional grief from your dog passing and your PTSD.

Good luck! And I'm sorry to hear about your pooch.
