  • ?A society that is relying on guys with guns to stop violence is a sign of a society where institutions have broken down,? said Rebecca Peters, former director of the International Action Network on Small Arms. ?It?s shocking to hear anyone in the United States considering a solution that would make it seem more like Colombia.?

This paragraph pretty much sums up my feelings on it. Our sudden need to arm everyone, everywhere, at all times is more reflective of a broken system that can't admit just how f'ed up it has let itself become than a solution to any real problem. Do we really think an unsuspecting teacher with a handgun is going to stop someone prepared who is carrying a rifle?

We cry that gun control won't work; there are too many guns out there already, the bad guys will always find a way to get their hands on them.

So we simultaneously admit defeat in even trying and flood the country with... wait for it... more guns?

Amazing to think how that won't work.

Totally agree.  More guns are not the answer.

This may be too simplistic, but this country learned during

the time of the Wid West that everyone with a gun on their

hip was not such a good idea.

  • The thing that makes me nuts about this whole topic is that reasonable people want to just have discussions towards meaningful reform in gun laws. But the second that the topic comes up you have people crying about "gun bans" and the 2nd amendment. Gabby Giffords owns a gun, and so does her husband. She is launching a campaign to find "Responsible Solutions" in trying to stop these horrible crimes. It doesn't include "gun bans", but it would include better laws about who can have a gun. I just have to say I have so much respect for this woman. Here's an article about her group....
