Infant carriers vs. convertible car seats
When did you put you LO in a convertible car seat? E is 9 months old and 16 lbs but her feet hang over then end of the carrier. I was just glancing at convertible seats earlier and saw that most started around 20-30 lbs. Thoughts??
No....click me!!!! Cause I'm the wedding bio!
Bloggin it up!

Re: Infant carriers vs. convertible car seats
All 3 of mine switched around 9 months I think because they were nearing the height limit of the infant seat.
As far as it being necessary to put her in a convertible, her feet aren't as big of a deal as her head. For most seats, you want at least 1inch between the top of her head and the top of the seat.
Are you sure you are looking at convertible seats though? All of my convertible seats start at 5 lbs. You should keep her rearfacing as long as possible, but at least 2 years, so you will want a seat that rear faces and then turns forward. I have britax boulevards and diono rxt seats for my kids and I really like them. The dionos are especially nice I think because they rearface to 45 lbs ( so v at 5.5 is still able to RF), then forward face, then booster to 120 lbs. Plus they fold flat so they are easy to travel with and fairly easy to install too ( though the boulevard is easier to install I think).
Yes. He's only 37 lbs and I feel better with him rear facing since it is so much safer than forward facing. After he sat forward a few weeks ago because I couldn't fit all 3 rear facing in the car we were borrowing, he said he likes it better too.
Wow there is no way possible that Connor could sit rear facing in any seat.
I would probably still have DS rear-facing if I hadn't had to turn him around so I could fit another seat in my car when I started babysitting (his seat would only fit RF in the middle of our car). I have a Radian XTSL, which is the old version of the Diono, and I would heartily recommend the Diono based on my experience with my seat.
H is only 4 months and I'm dying to switch her to a convertible seat. I'm a weakling and her 16 lbs plus the carseat weight is getting hard for me to carry. Plus, I'm short and have an SUV. I can barely lift that thing high enough to put it in the base. I can't give up the bucket right now because she can't sit in a cart, but as soon as she starts sitting unassisted, I will be switching.
G was 16 lbs plus at 4 months, too. I quit carrying that darn bucket seat really early on and just left it in the car all the time, unless I wanted to use it with the stroller.
Do you have a baby carrier? I wore G for all my errands until he could sit in a cart well, which was at about 8 months. He was much happier on me than in his carseat in the cart. I love my Boba, but you can't buy those locally like you can an Ergo. I also have a ring sling.
I agree, wear her! I wear DS in the moby or mei tai probably 90% of the time. I just got a ring sling but I am not real confident in it just yet. I remember wearing DD at about 6 to 9 months in the moby when I was grocery shopping. I would face her out and she would stay entertained the entire time and it made it much less stressful.
Ugh, I did not like the K'tan! Glad it works for you! I'm more a soft structured carrier kind of girl. I understand the weather thing. I know I've gotten frustrated dealing with layers and my sling or Boba.
And lol, yes, I get stared at all the time. My favorite comment is "Well, I've never seen one of those before! Is that a new thing?"
Um, no, women have been carrying their babies on their bodies for thousands of years. ![Smile](http://community.thenest.com/cs/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)
We must be one of 10 people to wear their babies.
I get stared at and asked about my moby all the time. The most common questions I hear are, "Is your baby just in your shirt?" and "Is that comfy for him?"
I put my moby on at home, and wear it in the car with my jacket over it. I get the kids out, oldest first and I carry both of them in the store. DD will stand next to me while I get DS in the carrier and once he is secure I put her in the basket. I have just this month become a bit more efficient at taking both kids with me. 2 at 20 months apart is still a bit difficult for me.
wait for A while before making the switch.
You can buy a nice convertible after that.. since you're partial to
Britax, I would recommend Britax marathon or Britax Pavilion.. Both
have great safety features like Harness Ultra-Gurad System and base
with Safe Cell (among others).. They are dream to install and pretty
comfortable too!
